New-boy Ritchie Jones has paid Barnsley the highest of tributes by describing the Tykes as a "Premiership team". Jones has been impressed by what he has seen of Oakwell following his switch from Manchester United earlier this month and believes the club should begin setting their sights high. "I have settled in really well and the lads have made me feel very welcome," Jones told the club's official website. "Training has been very good and again that has been down to the other players. "There are a lot of Premiership teams in this division and I personally count Barnsley as one of them when you look at the fantastic support and stadium here. "I do not think we should be looking at avoiding relegation - with a couple of wins we can push into mid-table. That is my aim." http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1812_1935838,00.html
**** me he's optimistic! good to see though, stay up this year, consolidate a bit, then in a few years maybe a push? we can but dream...
Too many of us dont realise just how good a set up we have at Oakwell. This is from a guy who has been brought up at the Manure Academy. Praise indeed!
This perhaps is hoping for too much but I reckon if we did stay uo this season and say in the next 2 years became a mid table team taht flirted with the plays offs (eg plymouth) we could well add another 3,000 onto our average attendances. However, it's not just about performances on the pitch. The fans realise we ain't got no money and will not be fooled by all this box office bull, experinced manager nonesence. More honesty form the baord - even if sometimes it means we have to be realistci with our ambitions - may also tempt a few back to Oakwell. I think we have Premiership potential but equally the club has to be more creative in winning back the missing fans and likewise, the missing fans have maybe got to show a bit more commitment to the club by getting off their backsides and supporting the Rerds for the bread and butter games not just Cardiff and the local derbys.
He's right, we are a Premiership club. Fantastic stadium & facilities. Obviously the main part is the playing staff, but I'm sure that will come back round again soon. Hopefully a start with the two Hungarian strikers we have.
if we continue to play like we did on Tuesday possibility ending the season above swfc. but its just one game ,one win but my glass is half full rather than half empty. we have got to start winning against teams higher in the league.
RE: He's right, we are a Premiership club. Fantastic stadium & facilities. yes you are a premiership club : (doh)
