Barnsley have refused to confirm whether manager Andy Ritchie will be offered a contract extension. The Tykes boss' deal expires at the end of the season and the South Yorkshire side are yet to tender fresh terms. Chairman Gordon Shepherd has hinted Ritchie will be handed an extension, but wants the club's lowly Championship plight to improve first. "He has eight months to run on the current contract," said Shepherd in the Sheffield Star. "We have got to focus on winning football matches. "If we were going to get rid of him we would have done that when Sheffield Wednesday called about him and we would have got compensation then."
