http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...ts=yes&more_nodeId2=158326&contentPK=15298540 Championship outfit Barnsley are considering a bid for Port Vale leading scorer Leon Constantine before today's midnight transfer deadline. The Valiants - who are hoping to bring in a right-sided midfielder on loan - would be reluctant to lose the in-form striker, who has netted six goals in his opening six games. However, they would also have to weigh up the fact Constantine is out of contract at the end of the summer when he could leave on a free. Tykes boss Andy Ritchie has made no secret of his plans to bring in a striker and has put Constantine among his targets after failing in his bid to land his main target, Brighton's Colin Kazim-Richards. The Seagulls accepted a bid from Sheffield United for the 20-year-old yesterday. However, Vale manager Martin Foyle confirmed the club hadn't received an offer and backed Constantine to ignore speculation. Foyle said: "Leon knows all about the situation. There is nothing to get excited about and Leon knows that. "He has to keep his feet on the ground and has to keep going, his attitude has been super." Constantine, below, was snapped up for just £20,000 by Foyle from League Two outfit Torquay last December. The 28-year-old netted 12 goals in 35 games last season to help the Valiants steer clear of the relegation zone, but has hit his best form this season after being paired with new signing Akpo Sodje. Foyle has brought in Stefan Moore on loan from QPR to compete for a place with Constantine rather than replace him. But Vale's plans will depend on the size of the bid they receive if Barnsley decide to go ahead with an offer today. Foyle has already raised £325,000 in the transfer market this summer, having sold winger Chris Birchall to Coventry City. He is talking to two rival managers about right-sided players in a bid to land one of the targets.
not a snowflakes chance in hell of getting him, will cost too much plus he will want paying more than £300 per week
dunno last chance to play in championship at 28 out of contract at end of year can't imagine he's on loads at vale
RE: 12 in 35..is he better than what we allready have????? We could pay him 5 bags of coal and a duck egg.
If we do get a new player(which we wont) I would rather see a good central defender we are scoring enough as it is to survive, but we are conceding far too easily and too many.
