probably getting an early death from the abuse and strain put on their bodies for wrestling and what they pumped into themselves.

    Sad to see.

    :(

was actually just talking about him the other day at the gym, my friend said he'd seen a documentary following him around his usual life and said he thinks he forgot how to break character/he actually was just the ultimate warrior.

    we found it hilarious.

All these wrestlers keep dropping dead young, something suspicious about that....

Some background story for those not really up on the guy. Jim Helwig was one of the biggest stars in sports entertainment during the 1980s second to only Hulk Hogan who is like the Pele, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth etc of wrestling in that even if you hate it you have probably heard of him. He was stupidly huge due to abusing his body with roids to have a bodybuilder look.

A few years ago WWE released a dvd on him completely bashing him. Saying he purposely hurt opponents, would no show events, refuse to put guys over (lose to them) etc and Jim opened a case against them for defamation. WWE own the rights to his Ultimate Warrior name so I believe he changed his name legally so he could continue to use it.

Eventually both sides settled and it resulted in last saturday him being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame class for 2014. The day after at Wrestlemania 30 he was there again with the other inductees from the night before to get an hand off the 75,000 worldwide fans in attendance in New Orleans. Then on monday night on Monday Night Raw he cut a promo with these words......

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BkxjtVLCIAAODUn.jpg

He didn't look well coming to the ring and was walking funny in his segment. The words are spooky to the point where you think he probably knew he didn't have long left....Maybe the reason he made up with WWE signing a legends deal with them, agreeing to go in the HOF etc was to make sure his wife and kids were looked after money wise if he was no longer around, rather than he actually wanted to come back to WWE after how they treated him.

The sad point is if he was around in this day and age in his prime he'd have been much more looked after. The WWE Wellness policy makes sure wrestlers are looked after more than they have ever been. Chair shots to the head are outlawed, regular drug tests to make sure guys are clean and they are extremely strict with regards to concusion. There has never been a safer time to be in sports entertainment. The generation of today I can't see dying at 54 years old.

Iv'e not heard what the cause of death was, but im guessing steroids too.
I wrestled for 7years in the UK and the amount of British wrestlers that was on steroids was stagering and they will be next Im afraid, a very short life span but they don't learn from other wrestlers mistakes.
Its a "sport" or industry that needs more random testing done, not just in the States but over here too.

Yeah other companies especially the likes of TNA need to follow the lead of Vince Mcmahon and have a Wellness policy. You notice guys are smaller than they used to be now that they are clean. TNA on the otherhand without naming guys you can see the company doesn't drug test as much as it should...Even dealing with something like a concusion. What a boss Vinnie Mac is that because his company legend The Undertaker had a concussion sunday night he left the 30th year of his visionary show to go with him to the hospital for the tests.

Here's a list of some of the wrestlers dead who I once watched, back in the day:

André the Giant - Heart attack

    Texas Tornado - Suicide

    Dino Bravo - Suicide

    Brian Pilman - Heart disease

    Renegade - Suicide

Ravishing Rick Rude - Heart attack

Owen Hart - 50 foot fall to his death during a show

    Yokuzuna - Heart attack

The British Bulldog - Heart attack

    Mr Perfect - Cocaine overdose

    Miss Elizabeth - Drug/alcohol overdose

Hawk (Legion of Doom) - Heart attack

    Crash Holly - Drug overdose

Jerry 'The Wall' Tuite - Heart attack

Hercules Hernandes - Died in his sleep

The Big Bossman - Heart failure

Eddie Guerrero - Enlarged heart from years of drug abuse

    Earthquake - Cancer

Bam Bam Bigelow - Drug overdose

    Mike Awesome - Suicide

    Sensational Sherri - Accidental overdose

    Nancy Benoit - Murdered

    Chris Benoit - Suicide

    Brian 'Crush' Adams - Overdose

    Test - Accidental overdose

    Umaga - Heart attack

    Dr Death - Cancer

    Chris Kanyon - Suicide

    Lance Cade - Heart failure

    Giant Gonzalez - Kidney failure

Randy 'Macho Man' Savage - Car accident caused by heart attack

    Paul Bearer - Heart attack

Doink the Clown - Drug overdose

    Mabel/Viscera/Big Daddy V - Heart attack

And now The Ultimate Warrior. He was my first childhood hero of wrestling.

Not to forget the likes of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, Scott 'Razor Ramon' Hall, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy and others who've nearly died or continue to struggle with drink/drugs etc. It's obviously a ****** up business. I don't watch the WWF/WWE anymore. I was an avid viewer as a young lad, right up to my teens and the emergence of The Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, Bret Hart etc. But it's years since I bothered anymore and by all accounts the business has tried cleaning up its image since the deaths - in particular - of Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. But from mates I have who still watch it, it's become ***** nowadays. So I saw the 'sport' during its halcyon days, and I have great memories of that period. But it's very sad to see so many of the 'stars' of that era popping their clogs so frequently. With lots more to come I would imagine.

    RIP Warrior.

Thing is mate, I only listed those I can definitely recall watching. So there'll be plenty of others that other folk remember who have also passed on. And maybe more that I've missed who I saw myself.

I went to watch a WWF show twice as a kid, one in Manchester, one in Sheffield. The Warrior, Bossman, Earthquake, Yokuzuna etc, all there. I can't think of another 'sport' or 'entertainment' product that I watched with such interest, and so recently really, that has since lost so many of it's stars and pretty much through the same reasons.

    Sad stuff.

One of the main problems with wrestling is that they don't get a 'close season'. There's not let up from the travelling and performing and the stress on their bodies has often led to people looking for quick fixes in the past. Pain pills were as big a problem, if not worse that steroids, and it became a vicious cycle. Things are much better now, but the fact remains that even the top WWE stars are essentially classed as self employed yet tied into their contracts, this means they can't afford to take time off or their spot on the card could be lost. It's incredibily competitive and Vince and co know this will always work in their favour. That said, the after care for ex wrestlers with issues is excellent now and with people like CM Punk being brave enough to take a step away when things become too much, it might signal a change. The emphasis now is on younger stars with the superheroes with ridiculous muscles from the past starting to disappear.

The last few weeks have been significant in this shift and the product has benefitted.

Still, very sad about Warrior. At least he was at peace with the industry at last though.

I had a facebook conversation with Matt Borne the week before he died. He told me he was in constant pain and he was taking Vicodin and morphine to ease the pain. he said he was hoping to get out on the road again wrestling, but of course he was found dead just a wek later after taking an accidentakl overdose of those two painkillers. Sad end to a troubled life.
He actually wrestled at the first Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden, while still wrestling as an indie !

Spent most of today watching videos of that golden era of US wrestling. Makes me sadder. But wow it was good fun as a young lad.

"Test - Accidental overdose " - thats a bit ironic innit. Hadnt realised so many had popped their clogs. If that was UK football there would be a full scale investigation going on.
