For weeks i have tried to defend Nick Colgan against the scapegoat brigade who constantly hammered him for not coming off his line. Now we have people complaining about Lucas conceding after coming off his line. As i said before. Every keeper in the country from top to bottom is different. Some stay on the line while others come for everything. Nick feels better at staying put (which i reckon he would have done for the second goal) and for me that means a central defender needs to take control. Unfortunately in Paul Reid we dont have that defender. Colgan didnt have too much to do yesterday but he looked confident with his handling and kicking. I really hope Nick stays on at the club but i also hope we bring in a decent keeper who is capable of pushing Nick all the way for his place and obviously improving his performance.
I don't like keepers that are glued to the line, waste time with every goal kick, won't throw the ball out and blame defenders for their own inadequacies. A summer priority is a keeper that gets the game moving by throwing the ball out quickly and not hoofing it up the field. The latter makes it a 50/50 ball all the time.
lucas kicked it long too he kept trying to rol it out to hassell and hecky but they ignored him so he booted it. Maybe colgan just doesnt bother trying to roll it to them anymore because he knows they wont be there? Afterall he did used to roll it out until he learnt it doesnt work with us
Agreed lucas did keep belting it forward and it kept coming back. Ive noticed Colgan tends not to bowl ball out cos our full backs either are being pressed by opposition or just dont look comfortable on the ball. Besides when have our full backs ever been good at distributing a decent pass?
RE: Agreed Colgan used to look to pass it to them but they were never interested so he gave up. If anyone cant reember that he used to do it then think back to the game where he rolled it to austin who was stood looking the other way arguing with a linesman.
