Decent way to spend the afternoon if you like rain and blatant lack of amenities. Anyway, mido looks almost athletic, well short of match sharpness and fitness. Lost some proper timber. Conceded almost straight from kick off. Left back misjudged completely the ball down the line and from the resulting throw in the entire team stood off giving their midfielder time to cut inside and put a pin point cross on their players bonce. Should have equalised almost straight away after our left back got played in 1on1 but pulled it straight across the goal. Generally through out the first half Huddersfield created the brighter openings especially with the final ball into the box. Their second goal was from a free kick into the box again pin point delivery causing chaos and the knock down got buried. Barnsleys left hand side was that inept Hudds had the time to put four cracking balls in. Two goals and a save. Hudds then changed tactics and started shutting up shop two tight banks of four hitting Barnsley on the counter. Barnsley made a tactical substitution freshening up the midfield. Mido had a free kick and one clear Oppourtunity which either hit post or was well saved other than that first half belonged to the rabid dogs from west Yorkshire. They could on another day quite easily gone in 4 or 5 nil up at half time. There was a distinct lack of urgency from the Barnsley team happy to play pass and move football in their own half with Hudds content to sit back and let them. When there was the effort to go forward and string two passes together you could see chinks opening up in a well drilled unit. Second half missed first five minutes as I was gassing but Barnsley were more direct with their approach play making passes in the final 3rd turning the away defence and creating a number of chances. The left back got his self played in twice more and messed up, had a 1on1 saved and mido missed a sitter with the ball going between his legs four yards out. He did make amends for this as the ref somewhat bizarrely decided he was pushed and gave a pen. Which he buried. Overall though, after the write ups on here I was expecting somewhat better, the players basic decision making was often poor turning into trouble, diving in and missing the ball, playing each other into trouble and very often choosing the wrong option. The lack of width was frightening at times as unless the full backs pushed up or someone made a run the game was very narrow. The few chances apart most of barnsleys efforts came from long range and Hudds looked like if they needed to they could quite easily step up another gear and always looked dangerous on the counter. Mido lasted about 65 minutes before being subbed for a kid who looked like he was playing hooky from school.
Did he get frisked before entry, where they found a pack of stickers, and a highway code booklet? Thought as much.
From BFC_Official via Twitter "Reds Under 21s lose 2-1 to Huddersfield despite controlling majority of the match." Are they bullshitting us?
I think that was one of the issues. Too many chiefs on the sidelines barking out instructions. No One on the pitch took control.
Not the best today from the young reds although they could have scored more. Wasn't too impressed with Mido, needs time defo. Thought Lucas made some good saves though. defending at times, not good enough. Funny moment, someone from Huddersfield had ago at one of the coaches. They had a bit of ago at each other and coach told him to shut up. He then had another go at him. David Flitcroft went across and told him to shut it, he shut up then. You don't mess with Flicroft.
