For me it was Danny Wilson - not just because it was successful but that team was a really fantastic team to watch The neutrals would have enjoyed watching us that season Although we scored loads of goals under Basset I don't think the football itself was that great to watch, although he is well known for that type of football
Ive seen all four promotion teams. Clarke, Hunter, Wilson and Ritchie. Suppose you can count Bassett in amongst those for getting us to a playoff final. The Clarke and Hunter eras were brilliant but I was maybe a bit young to appreciate the standard of football. Wilsons promotion team were best for me. When we were on form we were unstoppable and sometimes had teams beat after half an hour.
Hunter for me Clarkes sides were more based on efficiency - Hunter really went for attractive football. Bassets were better than I expected. Wilsons were obviously good Putting them in Order Hunter Wilson Clarke Bassett for me though I might be prepared to swap 3rd and 4th Also Richies sides were worth a watch as well - at least you got goals at both ends
Been lucky to see some good football at the Well Hunter's football was fantastic - we had a really talented team that played brilliant football!
Wilson's promotion team was a great team and we were really entertained.
The only other team to produce good football was the Bassett team - we could concede three but we'd score four - oh how to have that team now!
If I had tochoose one I'd go for Hunter's - think the big crowds made the games more magical!

Clarks team managed by Hunter When Hunter took over he took the brakes off and let them play, we saw some wonderful football watched by big crowds, probably the best time for me at oakwell, but Hunter was sh!te at signing players so it eventualy went downhill.Coming a close second for me is Danny Wilsons promotion side, that side also played some nice football and gave us prem football but the football under Hunter just edges for me.
Harry Bassett Very good squad, who played attractive football! Kevin Miller John Curtis, Steve Chettle, Chris Morgan, Chris Barker Craig Hignett, Eric Tinkler, Geoff Thomas, Darren Barnard Bruce Dyer, Neil Shipperley Reserves: GK - Tony Bullock, Dave Watson (injured), Richard Sidall DEF - Aidy Moses, Scott Jones, Nicky Eaden MID - R.Van Der Laan, Matty Appleby, Sean McClare, Martin Bullock FWD - Jon Parkin, Rory Fallon, Georgi Hristov, Mike Sheron
Couldn't stand Bassett Long ball football, got rid of top players and replaced with ageing crap and got lucky on the back of having good players left over from the Hendrie era. Fair play he got us to the old Wembley at the last opportunity for which I'm eternally grateful but he was the start of our long demise for me. Short term policies
I'm about as positive as BFC fans get And I don't think Bassett is a bad manager but he is what he is just like for example what you get with Neil Warnock. Bassett was a long ball merchant who brought in players beyond there sell by date and got rid of players of the quality of de Zeeuw. It was a gamble to get us up in one season that didn't work. Never wanted him as I like to watch attractive passing football which Barnsley have always had a reputation for. If I wanted to watch a Bassett team i'd go to Sheff utd
