A new rule should be introduced that any team who accrue less than 1 PPG should be relegated in addition to the bottom three or four and more promotion spots given to teams in the division below. This would cut down on meaningless fixtures and give clubs an incentive to perform until the last day of the season. Sunderland and Hull have been abysmal this season and deserve to go down. They have stayed up due to the fact that there were three teams even worse - not because they attained a respectable number of points
We stayed up due to there being 3 teams worse than us If we'd finished with 45 points and stayed up do you think we should've been relegated too?
Hull stayed up because they had such an impressive first half of the season, without that they would've been down months ago
RE: We stayed up due to there being 3 teams worse than us Yes - 45 points is pathetic However we have managed a minimum of 50 every year and deserved to stay up
Goal difference Not sure about that one, but I like radical ideas.
I've always wondered whether goal difference should play a bigger part in points tallies. Reading, for example, finished with an amazinggoal difference of +32, which shows not only that they are a good team in this division but that they have given some teams a good hiding.
Now that achievement is only recognised if they happen to finish level points with some other team, which is a shame. For me consistently winning games by 2 or 3 goals deserves more recognition, and it also shows that they play positive, attacking football. So for that reason I wonder if the points systemshould be modified in some way to give more weight to goal difference.
