Next weekend, everyone is playing either Friday or Saturday, and then again on either Monday or Tuesday. We're the only team playing Saturday and Monday. I don't think that's particularly fair.
Hear what you are saying... but at present we have a very very HUNGRY team... get them on to the 'Killing floor' and we will dispatch them humanely... I would hope LJ is instilling that kinda KILLER instinct right now.
I swear this seems to happen to us every year. Genuinely no idea how they work the Easter fixtures out.
Wasn't it agreed with Colchester to play on the Monday as they agreed to play the game at Oakwell on a Friday night? I could be wrong
Seems a bit random. Why would they want to play Monday in particular? Thought the game was moved to Friday because of the England game?
This is the 4th season out of the last 7 that we've been at a disadvantage by having to play 2 games in 3 days whereas our opponent for the second fixture had an extra day's rest. In the other 3 seasons, we both played Saturday/Monday so there was no advantage to either team. We're certainly due the advantage soon. Furthermore, this season, only 4 teams play on Saturday. Us, the Blunts, Swindon and MK Dons. The Blunts, Swindon and MK all play Tuesday, not Monday...but we play Monday. Why can't we play Tuesday too?
Yeah our club should have looked to have got the game moved to Good Friday and 3 pm. Extra day of rest, proper kick off time meaning more in the ground and SYP not having to deal with two Yorkshire derbies in a less than three hour period. Everyone wins. Be interesting to know if we actually tried to do this or not.
Could this stem back to our humble beginings as Barnsley St Peters that we never play a home game on Good Friday?
I wouldn't think so, mate. We beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at home on Good Friday, 1997 (it was also live on Sky). We followed it up by winning 2-1 at Reading on Easter Monday three days later. http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1996_1997/28/mar/index.shtml http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1996_1997/31/mar/index.shtml
I remember the Albion game well. I was 7 and me and my brother were having our picture taken with Toby tyke on the pitch before the game, still got the photo somewhere. My brother didn't go to too many games back then and I think I'm right in saying it was his first night game as he was only 4. He fell asleep just before kick off and woke up when my dad was carrying him back to the car 90 minutes later. Slept through 2 goals and everything.
