One of our few local working windmills at Kirton Lindsey had its sails ripped off in gales at the end of last year so it now looks a very sorry sight.
We occasionally go there to buy their own milled flour which has been made by means of an electric motor and speaking to the owner months ago before the winds came he said he couldn't afford the many thousands of pounds to maintain the sails so they were in a fixed position, not turning.
Now they are talking about insurance repairs which hopefully will restore full working sails again.
I do hope it works out for him as the windmill really is a wonderful sight in full sail. To see the old wooden mechanism inside is truly fantastic.
Maybe a good outcome out of unfortunate circumstances.
