Unless I am reading this wrong - more proof that UK courts dont understand the net

    It seem that the reason that the paper on why certain cars have security flaws in their immobilisers cant be presented is the software algorithm you need is available only on unauthorized websites not from the manufacturers

    This seems bizarre - a security flaw is a security flaw - the fact the algorithm is on the net is an issue that should be addressed separately but I doubt that any criminals planning to use it would be too concerned they didn't have the official version.

    I don't think this is the first time this has happened either. My memory might be playing tricks but I am sure someone tried to publish a flaw in the chip and pin security and the banks/manufacturers spent more effort trying to prevent publication than actually fixing the flaw.

    I think it is important though to prevent publication as that would inevitably lead to more people finding out. I understand what you say that it's freely available on other sites but that doesn't make it legitimate.
