Having read lots of postings, and listened to numerous conversations on the jocks departure from the Euros, i find it hard to beleive anyone would want them to do well. They hate us passionately, they will be wearing the shirts of any opposition we play, regardless. They will be singing that stupid anthem (listen to the words, it says everything they think about us) if we sung something like that, we would be charged by the do gooders in this world. Look at the dodgy linesman etc, was he the same one who allowed an offside goal from Ferguson to stand? no bleating there was there?

It's bascially the English patronising the Scots. It sort of says 'Look, you never have been and never will be the superior of England in any aspect of life never mind football. We fully expect you to make a complete balls up of things whether you qualify or not so out of sympathy, we will get 'behind' you'.

It's the same situation we had a few years back when Leeds were far and away the top team in Yorks (Sticks in my throat to say it but it was sadly true!). They would regularly come out with 'we want all Yorks Teams to do well' OR 'Wouldn't it be great if Barnsley got back to the Prem' etc etc. Obviouly, that's a few years back and I don't often hear the muppets come out with such drivel now.mmmmmmmmmmm wonder why??!! ! :D

    I'm Glad Scotland Lost

I couldn't do with them gloating about getting as good as us. Mcfadden should look at himself for missing the sitter near the end that would have put them 2-1 up and if Gordon is worth nine million, I am worth 15 million.

    I wanted them to win.

Really hard group. Never gave up and played as if wearing the national shirt meant something. Everything England havent shown.

If we go through - and its still a big if - we'll have made it because Russia bottled it. We don't deserve it.

    Can't agree with that.

I am far from being a McClaren man, but if we go through it's because we were better than Russia over a 12 game 'season'.

    RE: Can't agree with that.

Oh come on. Look at the group Scotland were in. France, Italy and Ukraine. No one epxected them to compete in the group - Let alone beat France home and away and take points from Ukraine.

England have lost away from home to Russia and Croatia and drawn at home with Macedonia and fail to take all the points of Isreal.

Also take a look at Northern Ireland. Beat Spain, Sweden and Denmark at home and take points from Sweden and Denamrk away.

Its an injustice that England get through based on seedings - which are false. Scotland would give England a great game these days - and on current form I know where my money would go. Beating Isreal at home surely can not count as a win in France? The fact that Scotland have 1 point more (currently) in that group and England need a point to qualify shows how well the Scots have done and how poorly we have performed.

Loyalty to England is one thing - but to say we deserve it more than Scotland is blind.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I wasn't looking at Scotland at all. They've done exceptionally well and fair play to em.

All I'm saying is that, if after 12 games England are in the top two, they deserve to go through because over the piece they were better than Russia.

They didn't have to beat Rusia and Croatia home and away; they didn't have to take all 6 points off Israel; hell, they didn't even have to beat Macedonia at home!

What they had to do was be better over 12 games than 5 other teams in the group, and if they draw on Wednesday that's what they've done. That's what leagues are all about isn't it?

    RE: Can't agree with that.

But those other teams in Englands group all dropped points, Russia to Israel and Croatia to Macedonia most recently. So should England finish top 2 they deserve qualification, why should Russia deserve it anymore than we do? If England lose to Croatia will Russia qualify because England bottled it then

Unless you put every country into one group and you play home and away you can't judge exactly which ones deserve it, and even then other factors can come into play- Scotland blew it in Georgia....the symptom of the side that can raise their game against the big boys but take other games for granted - where have we seen that before?
Scotland beat France home and away, yet France still finished above them, perhaps Scotland deserve to go through instead of France then? It doesn't work like that because Scotland must have lost more than 6 points against teams France beat! Oh and France didn't even need to play all there games to finish above Scotland.

    RE: Can't agree with that.

It was in context with the entire thread, and in particular to the "scotland were/werent unlucky"

They were unlucky to be drawn in the group they were. They are unlucky that although England are seeded higher its based on games played against lesser nations in the world cup etc. Scotland, seeded third in their group have punched well above their percieved weight.

England of course, if we get a point on Wednesday I personally believe we have been very fortunate to get through. England seeded as Number 1 in group have failed against lesser nations. Had to rely on Russia dropping points and still need to get something against Croatia which is not a for gone conclusion. I know its hypotehtical, but I wouldnt have put money on us to get through with a group consisting of France, Italy and Ukraine.

Dont get me wrong, I would sooner England qualify for the Championships. If we do, can you say we have done it well. Can you say the players have performed and played with pride. If we do qualify I will still see it as a disappointing qualifying campaign, whereas Scotland can hold their heads high.

On this basis, I would have liked to have Scotland qualify. You can say they didnt deserve it because they didnt finish 2nd.
