... Barnsley were the better team on the pitch. McCormack scored a great goal and deserves credit but for the most point Leeds were nullified as an attacking threat. In that respect i disagree with posters who say we were absolutely crap. We were simply not good enough/confident enough to break them down and at this stage its that that worries me. Time and time again we had the ball in a good position but didnt know what to do and/or put a bad ball or shot in at the wrong time. After McCourt and Proschwitz came on we did look more vulnerable at the back. The main disappointment for me today was Jennings who never really lived up to his recent hype. Dawson was his usual 'I can't get there or distribute effectively but I'll run around and look angry' self. I did think O'Grady tried really hard without any effective support and Crainie and Mvoto were generally very good at the back for me. I do take those positives..
Best post I've read, first half I thought we played reasonably well but the second half a few players appeared to lack confidence/energy. Simple passes/moves broke down and we became disjointed making the most frustrating 45 minutes football I watched for a while. We have lacked quality in key areas all season that's why we are in the bottom three, if you look at Leeds they have quality in the most important key area making them comfortably safe having also had a poor season. Regarding Wilson he has made us a solid defense unit something that looked impossible mid-season unfortunately his acquisitions have failed to bring that much needed quality in front of goal. Which ever league we end up in next season we now have a manager that will be backed to put together a squad that I'm sure will bring plenty of entertainment and goals.
The 4-5-1 formation is the only one Mr Wilson will use, it will reap its rewards away from home because we go to defend and get them on the counter. It works well cos the home side will attack and leave holes at the back which then leaves Jennings and co to exploit. The thing is....when WE are at home and in desperate need for 3 points you can NOT expect to this formation to work cos you are the home side and need to put them under pressure. All Danny seems to do is launch the ball up top and if this is his only plan he must have another striker along side O'Grady.. and get the wide players to get crosses in. You can't expect O'Grady to do all the work up top with no support and thats what's happen every home game. End of the day Mr Wilson doesn't know any other plan but plan A and this is why I think we will not stay up this season.
We did try plan B but we couldn't pass two yards to another player quality let us down not tactics in my opinion.
