That says to me "if a bigger club from a higher level comes in for me I'm off!", 'pledge to stay' my arse
There is no pledge to stay in that article. Just a desire to leave. As far as I know I’m staying Barnsley next season. I want to be the best player I can be and play at the best level I can, but I’ve not had any interest from any other clubs.
Naew, tha talking daft as usual Royston. Anybody who plays well for Barnsley should always stay put. The huge wages they get, the fantastic reception from the huge crowds and the chance to win trophies and represent your country... In all seriousness, that reads like I'd expect it to. If he gets an offer to play at a higher level or bigger club on more money he'd probably take it. Like Stones did, Butterfield, Vaz Te, Hammill etc etc. It's just to be hoped that those in charge of the club can get a true and fair value for him, unlike the other transfers I just mentioned.
Reads exactly as I'd expect it to too. He wants to leave to play at a bigger club which is understandable and should be the aim for most players but no bigger club has come knocking as they don't see him as a good enough player despite his goal tally. Bigger clubs need more from their players
That last line sums up most Barnsley fans frustrations it's not the fact they use the club as a stepping stone to bigger clubs that pisses me of its the fact we always get ripped off.
Agreed with the first part of your post, but the bit I've quoted is pure speculation on your part. I will say though, this is yet more proof if any was needed, that The Star are a shithouse set of journos. Nowhere in the article does it say "I'm going nowhere" or has Conor pledging his future to BFC.
Exactly. I would rather we kept hold of our better players but loyalty is rare these days. And so if they do want to leave, no problem, but lets at least get good money for em.
Bog standard answers to a bog standard question.Every footballer in the world would give the same reply.
Exactly. Don't know why people bother reading football interviews, it's all clichés, stock answers and platitudes. Tedium personified.
