(This post is meant to be lighthearted, so please don't take offence) I won't bump anymore threads, as I did so on Monday and aggrivated a couple of people which wasn't my intention. However I've just had a little look back to around the time we signed Adam Hammill back in November. A good 80% or so of us (me included) were against the signing of Hammill until it actually happened. A month or so before we took him on trial, and in response to rumors that we were linked with him, Lee Johnson said that we weren't interested in him. The general consensus were quite happy with that outcome. One particular poster suggested we should sign him shortly before he came on trial, and was shot down. When we took him on trial, there were over 70 posts in one thread of which the majority either were against the signing or said 'what do we have to lose'. I actually said, "he's phenomenal on his day, but that hasn't come since he last played for us". One poster described him merely as, Dale. WE KNOW NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't aggravated despite how it may have come across, I just thought it was the wrong thread to bump. Anyway in response to this thread i can remember some of the posts about Hammill and one poster in particular who was particularly vocal against us signing him. I think he answered the doubters in the best way possible.
I can honestly say, I am non of the above, I was all for us signing Hammill and sure I posted as much. When he did sign I went to the York JPT game to watch him, a game I otherwise had no intention of going to
Aye I know fella. Looking back, it was a bad example. I'd read a few threads and think I picked one and ranted on a different one. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I think I did see a thread from yourself saying as much to be honest. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Re:You wouldv'e been better going down the 442 is dead etc route, plenty of meat to get your teeth into there
Personally my take on it was that rarely do players come back and do any good (Ian Banks immediately comes to mind) but that things had got to the point where anything was worth a try. Hammill certainly lit Oakwell up in his first spell and his age wasn't a problem, so why not give him a go? The rest, as they say, is history.
I was against re-signing him, when it was first suggested early in the season upon his Huddersfield release. Had you seen the state of him after a punch up in Spain on pre-season, fighting with a local when bolloxed, and having seen him play ***** a few times, you'd understand. But when it was clear he was here on trial, I think I'd have been more receptive. I was even tempted by Colace after meeting him in Redfearn's where he told me "I'm better player than these.." But yes. I was against Hammill's return originally. I didn't envisage a changed man, and him producing the best football of his career, becoming a Tarn legend and catalyst for promotion. Hats off to the lad. Funny old game. We did win all five games he was unavailable for though, I think...? He goes, he goes. But hopefully not to Bristol.
I was desperate for us to sign him and asked Patrick to on 2 occasions. I also posted his video on here and said we should look at getting him back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
