Despite all the daily arguments on here, I take my hat off to every poster on this forum.

We all support a smaller club that's local to the majority of us, and even those that support the reds, but aren't from the area can't be accused of glory hunting.

Whether first generation reds, brought along by family, or introduced the next generation, like me with my lad, we should all be fecking proud.

No I'm not losing it, or drunk. I've just seen a photo of 3 local lads supporting Liverpool against Cardiff. That's never reight in all this world.

They'll never feel it like we do. You don't get our pride free with an half and half scarf.

    COYR!

I live in West Yorkshire but come and watch Barnsley and have done for 35 years (i came with some lads from work for ONE game!) and people always say 'at least you're not a glory hunter'. People i know (support) Liverpool, man utd, arsenal and Chelsea and have the cheek to say they are NOT glory hunters - who are they trying to kid?

I work with a Sheffield-born Man Utd fan whose idea of going to the game is to watch it in Walkabout, and (from his accent) an east midlands-born Liverpool fan with a Sky subscription.

They spend half their lives arguing about Mourinho this and Klopp that. Park the bus! Gegenpress!

    I pity them.

    I’m with you there fitzy.

I’ve got some friends who support the big sides and I really don’t get it.

The feeling of going every week, the passion, being part of it is everything and I simply cannot imagine being a fan of a team and not going to the games, wouldn’t feel right.

My daughter was born and bred in Sheffield. She started taking an interest in football, and played for Sheffield Wednesday through the years. She came to Barnsley games with me, and occasionally went to Wednesday games with her Dad. Contrary to what people might think, I never forced Barnsley on her, nor did I discourage her from watching Wednesday.
On the play off weekend she went to both games, Wednesday's, and Barnsley's.

I knew she was more Barnsley than Wednesday, but after the Winnall thing, and then the 2 games v Wednesday, last season, she has said she can't support any other team than Barnsley. She just gets the mentality that we're a small club, doing our best. She even laughs at Wednesday fans banging on about attendances etc. It would have been very easy, surrounded by her schoolfriends to have gone the other way, but she is as much a Red as any of us. Her Dad isn't thrilled!

    Me too.
A flag with Mexborough Whites on it yesterday at Elland Road.
(Yes I know Mexboro is not in Barnsley)

We have had this discussion dozens of times on here - as a club we have to break the stranglehold that the Sheffield and Leeds clubs have on the Barnsley District.

The only way to do that is:
    1) Have a more successful club than they have.
Which is highly possible with these owners.

    2) Market the club so people can RELATE to the club in a wider geographical area within YORKSHIRE.

I think we should call ourselves FC Universe, and then everyone will want to come.

A coach has picked up at the Cross Keys, Wath for Leeds home games for donkey's years. It comes from the Mexborough direction.

I support Barnsley although I live down south. I support them because of my dad originally being from Barnsley and being a big Barnsley fan and also his family being from Barnsley and being Barnsley fans. I have seen other teams play but have never been interested in supporting another team. Barnsley are the best team to support.

Had this debate with a Liverpool "fan" at work last week. Said to him i SUPPORT my club you just FOLLOW yours. He got very angry about it, few days later I was clearing a cupboard out at home and found a old sky remote. So I took it in for him and said here I've got you a Liverpool season ticket.

That's fair enough, and doubtless there are fans of the big clubs that have links but live away. Young lad from Norwich used to sit next to me. His dad is a red and moved over there.

I often wonder what the genuine, local fans of some of those clubs think of the plastics they attract.

Talking of Glory Hunters, I wonder how many Huddersfield Town shirts and scarves are destined for the back of the wardrobe at the end of the season!

Supporting your local football club has more to it then just supporting your club.
What you are doing is also supporting your local community.

Radio Sheffield said when United got into the premier all those years ago that it would boost the local economy by £45 million.
    That was way back then.
What would it do now for thier economy?

So if you have kids wanting a job - do you support your local club - or do you put your money into another club and community???
Thick fookers in Barnsley who support Sheffield and Leeds don’t think about things like this.

And as I’ve always said - I’ve no argument with people living in Barnsley that support Leeds or Sheffield that have ties to those cities.
Both are fantastic cities to live and work in.

Me and my dad have had season tickets before but as we live down south it’s difficult to get to many home games. However we do try and get to as many as possible and to as many away games. Although the majority of people I know support London clubs and some who support Manchester United Liverpool Etc I personally love supporting a different club to them and I never have been and never would be interested in supporting anyone else.

Plenty of Reds in Mexborough, to be fair though we are roughly equidistant from Rotherham and Donny, and Hillsborough is reasonably close too...but Leeds!!...very sad.
