A goal chalked off for Portugal this aft when the Ref seemed to ask about it... and now Chile get a goal chalked off and it appears to me the V.A.R. refs seemed to have intervened... I am all for it personally as I believe it will stop a lot of dodgy decisions and cheating.... but just one question why the hell do they not also now introduce an official timer and stop the clock when V.A.R. is in session, and also when the ball goes dead, the ref will have then the responsibility of time keeping taken from him and "Fergie Time" will have gone forever. They do it in Rugby so why not in football.
I'm too lazy to Google. What does VAR stand for? Edit: also FIFA have put forward that very idea and it will be discussed at the next meeting. One suggestion is 30 minute halves with the clock stopped EVERY time the ball goes out of play. One is 45 minute halves like now but the ball stopped every time it goes out in the last 5 or 10 minutes of each half (as that's when time wasting mainly happens). Another is traditional 45 minute halves but the referee stops his watch immediately when he gives a card, awards a goal or a penalty etc (ie key moments where time gets wasted) And another is for the refs watch to be linked to the scoreboard s we can all see how much stoppage time there actually is
