If that wasn’t a penalty for Newcastle then Var isn’t fit for purpose.

I hate to bring this up but how did VAR not refer the Brighton keeper's challenge on Diaz yesterday back to MIKE DEAN?.... Oh I think I just answered by own question there!

As we all know, VAR is being operated by the same corrupt officials that were corruptly officiating before it existed. Merely being used to rubber stamp bad decisions in favour of the big clubs.

Absolutely. The technology isn't the problem, it will constantly give the right answer. It's the people using it who are inconsistent.

It’s how it’s applied, what’s this rubbish about a clear error being made? If it’s a foul it a foul.

Havertz should have been sent off, it’s irrelevant if he meant to do it or not. The very fact that his elbow nearly took off Dan Burns head at 6’7” is proof enough it was reckless and endangering an opponent.
David Coote is an appalling referee at the best of times.

I haven't seen the incident you mention, but it's all subjective. What one person might deem to be a foul, another might not, which is why you have the 'clear and obvious' rule. If they can justify the referee's decision on the field, they're not going to overturn it.

As I say, the technology gives the right answer, it's the people using it who are the issue.

Refusing a penalty when it couldn't be more clear and obvious that the guy is being dragged around by his shirt is gross incompetence at best, tending towards corruption.

I watched the Chelsea Newcastle game and by the end of it, in my mind there was no doubt that football is broken beyond all comprehension.

You had the VAR calls as mentioned which seem to undermine the point of VAR given the end results weren't justified, a red card and a penalty were pretty evident, yet the wrong calls weren't overturned.

But aside from that, preceding it you had Petr Cech bemoaning the instability at the club and that they couldn't guarantee paying the poor little players much longer. Banners heralding Abramovic's era (error). Songs of spite between each set of fans. Fans lauding their new regime that gladly kills citizens and opponents, while home fans sang sons in support of their sort of owner who has gotten the club into massive financial debt for his own vanity from proceeds he gained by being a close ally of Putin, and all that entails. A man so concerned with not having his £600m superyacht seized, he put it to sea before "repairs" were completed. But those poor Ukrainians.....

But it got me thinking. Why does football have so much hate wrapped around it? Why is it win at any cost? Why do we accept corruption as long as it gives us an advantage?

I mean it comes to something when you look at our owners and they look beacons of virtue in comparison to many of the owners in the PL. I'm highly critical of them, but they are just mere grubby selfish chancers. Not murderers. Not climate destroyers. Not war enablers.

    Grim.
