Just shows how short sighted that filthy club is. He should give that club the 2 finger salute if he ever plays at that ground again
Newcastle Utd turned Alan Shearer down at the age of 15 after making him play in-goal during a trial! That decision to not look at him as an outfield player cost them £17.5m at a later date!
Speedie left after a fall- out with Alan Clarke, Don't think it was anything to do with him not being rated at the club. Clarke was a disciplinarian and apparently Speedie clashed with that.
Didn't the fowls also not spot the talent in a Frenchman called Eric Cantona when he had a trial there or is that an urban myth?
Francis dithered on Cantona, he wanted to see him on grass......he was on Astro turf for a week at Wednesday So cantona got the hump on. Demba Ba didn't show anything special but was on trial as a defensive midfielder, I think his agent suggested he switch to striker as a last ditch attempt to find a club I can't remember anything special about Speedie at Oakwell.....I was only seven but didn't he go on a free to Darlington .... I don't think he showed potential
Francis on Cantona Events. He says the Owls could never have hoped to sign Cantona and that he only took the Frenchman to Hillsborough as a personal favour to Michel Platini so that he could be put in “the shop window” for a move to England. http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spor...ield-wednesday-did-not-sign-cantona-1-4470843
I thought Speedie had a bit of success at Chelsea after us? And we lost out to Arsenal with a kid called Freddie Ljunberg. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
We lost out on Freddie Ljunberg after he had a stormer against England, we'd agreed a fee of 1.6 I believe, we used the money to buy Craig Hignett instead Did read somewhere we had John Carew on trial on trial as a kid or I made that up ?
We had Demba Ba on trial. For Vardy to be released by Wednesday who were in either the 2nd or 3rd tier, and him not to be picked up by any other team higher than the 7th(?) tier, suggests that nobody thought he had what it takes. He's obviously an exceptional case. How many others go from plying their trade in the Unibond league to playing international football? Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
