West ham supporting mate of mine watched him in their last game and reckoned he was their best player - got a standing ovation when subbed half way throught he second half - he couldnt believe the range of figures I gave for the amount they paid - best guess 500K possibly a bit more but doubtful and could have been as litle as 250K he also wondered why the figure wasnt announced
That's what I heard too. He's an excellent player and we should have been looking to get well in excess of a million. Around £1.5m would have been about right. However, we seem to be unable to negotiate effectively in the transfer market, which will stop us from moving forward. Vaz Te, Shackell, Haynes, Howard, the list is endless. I suspect Butterfield would have been sold for around £800k to £1m in January too when we should be looking for around £2.5m to £3m, i.e. look at Johnny Howson's fee.
750K or so now is better than nothing in the summer for a skint club that isn't pro active in looking for new investment.
I'll chew my own **** off if we got 750 for him, divide it by two more like. He's probably the difference between a top half finish and not.
The Sun website said we turned down 500k for him originally which was the offer Hill slagged off, so 750k won't be far off.
