The good news we sign a much needed forward in early January bad news he's been injured and needs two weeks to get fit you couldn't make it up.
Didnt we do that with Woodrow - I seem to remember he was 2 week away from being fit for quite a while
I'd rather sign a decent addition ( which most seemed to think he is) and wait two weeks than sign someone who's fit but no improvement. The market isn't going to be awash with players who are available, improvements on what we have, affordable and fully fit.
He needs time to get match fit, which is a different matter. We’re a club with a mid league 1 budget. We’re not going to bring a player in that’s playing week in week out, unless they’re from a league 2 club.
Assuming the thread is based on this interview, https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/24452/watters-will-add-express-pace-when-fully-fit "“He has been out for a month with a hamstring injury and has had some illness, so we need to get him up to full speed." Doesn't say he's still injured, but needs minutes to build up his fitness. We have three games left this month, after Wednesday winning in the cup. Hopefully, he'll come off the bench in those, but we'll also have 20 games after that to play. The reaction to this on Twitter is staggering, with people seemingly wanting somebody that's scored goals in this league before, been playing regularly this season, and within our budget. Such a player doesn't exist.
This. Think a lot of fans expect us to sign a striker who's better than what we have, fully fit and ready to go, just sat around waiting for a move, not needed by his current club, within our budget, not wanted by anyone else either in our division or in the Championship and is guaranteed to score 15 goals between now and the end of the season? I'd love someone who ticks all those boxes but unfortunately the reality is such a striker isn't going to be joining us as things stand. We need to be taking a punt on people, maybe players under the radar etc. January is also notoriously tough to sign quality without paying daft prices (which we can't afford)
When we sign any player these days the first question i ask is not what position is he it’s what kind of injury has he got.
Of course we want to sign a striker better than we have given our i not strike options are either on their last legs not quite good enough or still qualify for under 11 football. And of course he should be fit to play. I’m not sure people are demanding the world there.
There are 23 games left to play this season. People are throwing their toys out of the pram because he might not play in the first 2 or 3 of them.
There's been plenty to be annoyed about over the last 18 months, but jumping on this transfer seems a bit odd. We've signed somebody early in the window, that plays in a position that needs to strengthen, but will need time to get match fit. That might even mean he comes off the bench on Saturday.
Apologies. Assumed he was injured gauging the reaction on this thread. I appreciate there is a difference between being injured and not fully fit. I wouldn't want him coming straight in anyway when Cole and Norwood aren't really doing anything wrong.
