Apparently ,even after the signing of Tommy Wright and the contract extension of Marc Richards , money is still avaiable for more purchases . Andy Ritchie has "one or two irons in the fire" and expects to bring in "at LEAST one more new face".
This being the case , a massive pat on the back to Gordon Shepherd and the board for steering us into this position . They are giving Andy Ritchie the backing to get us promoted and Andy , in his turn , is proving quite astute in the transfer market . Also , Andy is not under pressure to sell , so he can improve the quality of his squad without the pressure of enforced out goings , that may have had an adverse effect .
All we need now is three points today against the club I detest more than any other on this planet !

    Article.

Ritchie gets green light to spend.

Wright set to join Tykes as Barnsley eye top two.

Andy Ritchie's quest to lead Barnsley to promotion will not involve selling players to raise funds for new additions in the transfer window.
The club announced the completion of a £50,000 deal to sign former Leicester forward Tommy Wright last night and Ritchie is now planning to bring in at least one more new face.
Having already secured the services of striker Marc Richards on a new long-term deal, Wright's addition will have proved to supporters the level of ambition within the Oakwell boardroom.
Clubs with bigger debts may insist on players leaving before adding to the wage bill but Ritchie is fortunate enough to have a board who are now balancing the books.
While there will still be a major loss when the club's accounts are published next month, Ritchie confirmed that money was now available for team strenghtening and praised Chairman Gordon Shepherd for the good work.
"We have not been that long out of administration - but the chairman and the board have done ever so well to get us level again and, hopefully, by next season we will be back in the black and not in the red," he said. "I don't have to sell and there is a little bit of cash available. We have one or two irons in the fire and I am hoping to bring in at least one more player. We are not flush with money but I do think we need one or two additions to the squad."

Shepherd was appointed as chairman 12 months ago following the departure of former Leeds United cheif Peter Ridsdale and has kept a tight grip on the club's purse strings.
"The club is now back operating within a set budget and, barring any untoward catastrophe, I anticipate a major improvement in the year to May 31 2006" said Shepherd. "As for progress on the field, we can be justly proud - but all of us here are not complacent."
Ritchie was delighted the board agreed to fund the signing of Richards on an 18 month contract after the former Northampton Town striker proved his worth on a short-term deal.
"We need people of his calibre," said Ritchie. "He deserved the longer extension and we all hope there is even more to come."

Ritchie, no longer pursuing his interest in former Middlesbrough defender Dean Gordon, believes today's derby against Huddersfield Town at Oakwell can have a major bearing on the outcome of this season's promotion race. Victory would reduce the gap between the two rivals to just a point and further extend Town's recent slump in form.
Town have suffered two defeats and three draws since drawing Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup but Ritchie says that is nothing more than coincidence.
"I never got distracted by cup draws when I was a player. It is part and parcel of your job. If you get injured you get injured. You don't pull out of challenges just because you have got a game coming up against Chelsea. One game against Chelsea is not going to make a career." he said.

The postponement of the game at Bournemouth in midweek gave Barnsley a breather amid the congestion of the festive fixture list.
Defender Antony Kay will still be missing with a knee injury but winger Martin Devaney has recovered from a calf-strain and striker Daniel Nardiello could be back on the bench after eight games out with a torn hamstring.

It then goes on to talk about Huddersfield.

Andy Ritchie: "It is vitally important to beat teams who are down at the bottom - but doubley important to beat teams around you at the top."

Peter Jackson: "We are still in a good position and looking forward to the match."

Huddersfield defender Danny Adams, meanwhile, has extended his contract with the Terriers until the summer of 2007.
The 30-year-old has been an integral part of the Town side this season missing just one League One game through suspension.
Town are clearly in need of a major lift after the midweek 3-0 defeat at home to Port Vale when a miserable night was capped in the closing stages by David Mirfin's dismissal, the defender's second red card in four games.
The trip to Oakwell will be the first of a two-game ban with Martin McIntosh expected to slot into the centre of defence alongside Nathan Clarke.
Manager Peter Jackson does, however, have another option with Tom Clarke having deputised for Mirfin following his earlier red card.
Despite the disappointing recent run, Town have enjoyed an encouraging 2005 and could return to the top this afternoon if results go their way.

    "Key men: Richards (Barnsley)" ??

I think that brings the rest of the article in to question!

I saw that but as the rest of the article was positive I was ignoring it.
Just assuming that he had meant to type Devaney but hit the wrong keys

Let's hope he proves us wrong and bangs a couple in today

I've nowt against Richards, he's had some good games and he's going to be an important part of the squad, but he's not our key man.

Category A today. 20 quid. And I'm going. I must be mad.

    Usually, yes, but

I did go to the 5-3 victory over Bradford. And I can't remember the last time I saw Hudds beat us at Oakwell, if ever.
