http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17150054 I remember when this one first came to light but had forgotten about it to be honest. Can't decide if it's a good thing or not? Would less TV money going in at the top lead to a more level playing field or a whole host of smaller clubs going to the wall? Or both?
Re: £700 per month for Sky ? That's a huge chunk of their income apparently, from clubs, bars and other public premises wishing to show the games.
Re: £700 per month for Sky ? Premier league players on over £150k per week ... fecking hell actual fire too !
Re: £700 per month for Sky ? I think it sets a dangerous precedence that will have far reaching consequencies with regards to sports rights and also ilm and drama etc. TV companies are reliant on being able to sell the rights to their shows, sports in selling TV rights. The Premier League will have to look again at how it's packaging rights, they'll probably now look to sell pan-European rights, which will result in just pushing up costs, because for example the Greek market may have been a lower cost market but now they'd have to pay as much as the UK for example. Or British broadcasters could maybe pick up the Italian league cheap due to a lower interest here but that fee will have to go up to prevent it being picked up in Italy on the cheap. Similarly US sports are seen over here as a cheap pick up - that could end. I reckon it's a backward step that may look good on the surface but will be detrimental in the long run.
Re: £700 per month for Sky ? nope, neither can I... in fact I haven't clue why I posted that... must be going senile
Re: £700 per month for Sky ? i think you'll find that one smart cookie at skys legal team has got it covered, the team sheets at the start belong to sky ( copywright infringment )the pint of guinness logo in the bottom righthand corner belongs to sky ( copywright in fringment) the score in the upper left belongs to sky ( copywright infrinment) substitute notice belong to sky ( copywright infringment) the list goes on and on
We now await the other providers to find a legal way of showing the match without the copyright materials. Can they, will it be worth their while or will they just simply pack in?
