Think he had a good game last night, held the ball up well, caused problems for the defence. I see more in him than I saw in Ivan Toney at the time. As for the miss, he made his own chance outmuscling the defender and he'll learn.
I thought he played well overall. He’s a strong lad, something we really lack in the final third. His first touch, and ball control in general, really let him down, though. Besides the awful 1-on-1 miss, he had another opportunity that fell to him near the penalty spot. Even a half decent touch would’ve set him up perfectly, but he ended up miscontrolling it, allowing Rotherham to clear the ball. Not sure about the comparison to Toney. Totally different players. How many games did Toney even start for us?
His first touch has to improve if he’s to become a decent player at this level. I don’t doubt that he will improve that part of his game though, he has to be the most improved player in a short period of time we’ve ever had hasn’t he? Only a few months ago I was worried he was back up striker, now I don’t mind if he starts in the strongest 11. Massively improved and full credit to the lad.
Like all of our players, Vic has his strengths and weaknesses. I’m not sure he’ll make a consistent striker at this level but he’s certainly out performing the level I thought he ever would. He causes havoc for the opposition but his first touch and finishing need some work.
Generous to say he outmuscled him. He pushed him out of the way. There would’ve been some protesting from the Rotherham players if he’d found the net. Then 2 minutes later he did fairly outmuscle someone using his shoulder & was penalised. The ref was all over the place. Definitely looking better in open play though. Looks a useful asset going forward & not just a stop gap until we can get someone better
I think it's his decision making. Last night the ball was never going to beat the keeper to his right. Maybe he thought placing the ball into the gaping goal was too easy?
I think if he was to have another shot at league 1 level, playing in a decent team week in week out he would develop even further. I'm hoping he gets a contract extension and we can get him out on loan next season.
If you could combine Victor and Chaplins strengths then we’d probably have a decent championship striker.
He will be permanently on the bench or out to a League 2 side on loan if we get a quarter decent striker in the transfer window. Just how many chances do you give a player? He is 22 years old and has scored 8 in 95 games. When we sent him out on loan he had 1 in 26. Ivor Toney did score when out on loan but just not for us.
