Talking about if they went up all they'd have to look forward to is a relegation battle as they couldn't compete financially, and how he'd much more enjoyed a more competitive Championship.

    All relative innit.

Bree has played 404 minutes this year could really have done with him staying at Oakwell for next year and half as part of that deal

we have fans like that always looking on the pessimistic side. I thought Villas owners had some serious cash these days and I dont see why they cant out perform "the likes of " Burnley Bournemouth Brigton or even Newcastle and Everton and Leicester. Not that they are promoted yet

To be fair to him, he was quite realistic - it was part of a wider discussion about how the top 6 are pulling further and further away, and for the rest (esp newly promoted sides) it's a survival scrap.

In the build up to the play off final last season, Reading fans were saying they weren't bothered about going up. When they lost to Huddersfield their forum had the same view in that they enjoying seeing more wins, cheaper ticket prices etc.

I would say after the season they have just had, they had wished they had got promoted. It should be same with Villa or any other club. Getting promoted to the premier league shouldn't be seen as a negative.

In effect, the Championship is an extension of the Premier League from 7th down. I reckon Wolves would have finished 8th this year if they'd have been up there with exactly the same squad.

The parachute money has had the intended affect of levelling the playing field but in an adverse manner of making the Championship incredibly strong. I've heard quite a few players new to the Premier League commenting this season that the standard surprised them in that it's not that big a jump and, apart from the very top clubs who compete in Europe, it's a level they're comfortable dealing with.

Sadly it's the likes of Barnsley who don't have the Premier League honeypot who struggle to now even tread water in the second tier.
