However, because you will need to restart your computer to implement the solution, please read and print these instructions. They will not be available after you shut down your computer.</p> Virus removal notes</p><ul>[*]Because this virus eludes detection in the normal Windows mode, you need to start your computer in safe mode. For more information about restarting your computer in safe mode, see A description of the safe mode Boot options in Windows XP. [*]If you work on a network with this computer, make sure you log on to safe mode with your network credentials. This will ensure you are looking at the same files that you access with your network account. If you usually see a Windows logon screen asking you for your user name, password, and domain when you start your computer, then your computer is on a network. [*]If you are using a USB mouse or keyboard, it may not function correctly in safe mode. If possible, plug in the mouse or keyboard to the computer using the PS/2 connection (usually located in the back of the computer). [/list] Virus removal instructions </p> There are two major tasks required to remove this computer virus: </p><ul>[*]Restart your computer in safe mode with networking [*]Scan your computer with the scanner available at Windows Live [/list] Both tasks can be accomplished by following these steps:</p> Restart your computer. As your computer restarts, repeatedly press the F8 key on your keyboard until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you work on a network with this computer, make sure you log on to safe mode with your network credentials. Use the arrow key to select Safe Mode with Networking, and then press ENTER. Use an arrow key to select an operating system and press ENTER. When prompted to run Windows in safe mode, click Yes. After your computer starts in safe mode, start Internet Explorer and go to Windows Live Safety Center (http://safety.live.com/). In Windows Live Safety Center, under Service Centers, click the Protection icon. Under How safe is my PC, click the Protection Scan button, read and choose to accept the Beta agreement, and then install the scanner. (Note: If you have already installed the scanner once, the scanner will start automatically, so you can skip to Step 9.) After the scanner installs, click Launch Scanner, and then follow the directions to remove the virus. Click Start, click Shut Down, and in the drop-down list, click Shut down.<span class="anything" id="turn_off_computer"></span> In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
