Viv Anderson says it’s 40yrs this month he made his England debut. He’s going to Cycle from Oakwell next June to Netherlands for charity https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....-anderson-making-england-history-13585409.amp
Viv says he was one of the first black managers but there has not been much progress on that score , well Viv , we gave you a chance & you bottled it , it was your choice to leave us & your choice to give a managers job up , I have little sympathy for him , although I do wish him well for his charity ride , that is commendable .
The excitement that summer when we announced him, probably the most eager i've been apart from the summer of 97! And that ***** pelada kit with the black armbands.
If ever we should be glad of someone accepting their limitations and allowing the baton to be passed to someone more worthy... Mind you, pity Spackman, Little Lee and Morais didn't take such a course of action!
On 1 occasion. I went to watch a saturday junior game but match was postponed. Watched 1st team training instead. Was quite obvious then that Danny was in charge as Viv kept asking him to tell the players what's what. Stumpy, ( who was wearing a cast on his arm) said " do I have to come in tomorrow boss" to Viv as we were playing on the sunday . Viv to Danny. " You tell him. " Danny to Stumpy. " Get this arse in 1 pm and that applies to all on Yer playing or not.". Also remember Peter Shilton saying at the time. Viv is too much of a nice guy to manage players. Probably the reason he went to Middlesbrough to coach under Brian Robson.
