They're clearly panicking about losing customers to 02 because of the iphone. When I phone last week I was honest with them and said why I wanted to leave. They said that they'd changed the rules lately with customers wishing to reduce their contract to a smaller monthly fee- basically folkwere setting it to minimum payment per month and then paying off their contract to go with 02 (exactly what wanted to do).
They said that you can now only go down one tariff per month, so it would take me 4 months to get to their basic price plan- pretty much tying you in or leaving you with a massive severence payment to get out early.
So anyway today I called them with a different story- said I was wanting to set my contract to minimum as I was off travelling overseasand didn't want to get lumbered with excessive costs for a phone line I wasn't using. And no questions asked, I was put on the lowest tariff going and wished bon voyage.

What sort of contract are you tied into? Can't you just give a month's notice and chuff off, or just cancel your D/D?
RE: What sort of contract are you tied into? I'm on your typical 18 mth deal on Vodafone, £35 per month plus extras. Runs till June, and you can't break it early unfortunately.
How much !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 35 notes! Fkin ell.
You must do some serious phoning mate. I get 400 minutes and 1000 texts for 15 quid with O2 anyway and I can't use all that. Presumably you get "other services".

RE: How much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know there's a lot of deals out there but I've always been loyal to Vodafone, 11 years, stupidly. Now I've got rid, but I won't be saving much money with the iphone, those contracts are dear too....
