I'm 18 and live in darton so thursday will be my first chance to vote, i am currently undesided who to vote for, as i have limited ideas about what policies each party is aiming to put in place, i would someone on here who lives in the area be able to give me a brief outline of each parties aims, without decending to slaging the other parties off TIA Dan
It's a personal thing, look at the candidates see which you think will serve your particular ward the best, you're 18 be your own man make a decision don't let anyone influence your vote. LABOUR LABOUR LABOUR LABOUR LABOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what i'm saying is i want to make my own decision but i don't know what the policies of each party are
Take a look around your village - Look around Barnsley town centre. Are you happy with state of schools, roads, public services? When you travel Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield even Doncaster. Do you get the feeling that Barnsley is either stood still or moving backwards? I visited Darton High School a couple of months back - Ain't been back there since I left in 1985, To say I was shocked was an understatement. What they've done or rather not done to my old school - It's as if it hadn't been maintained in 20+ years. Not a lick of paint, not even a window cleaned. :'( It was a **** hole. If it had been a house it would have been boarded up, been a crack den, torched and demolished. I know they're building a new one in a few years - But if the 13+ Carrilian shools that have gone up in the past year areound Barnsley are to go by, that'll be in a simular state in 5 years not 20. They're like identikit mc donald schools. Time for a change me thinks.
We've got a nice model of a unbuildable town centre surrounded with a multicoloured wall and a stupid halo that must have cost millions.
Shyty's Guide to Local Politics Labour wants to carry on shafting everybody like it has done for decades;
Tories make Labour look like amateurs when it comes to shafting people;
Liberals disagree wi everything Labour says. They also disagree wi everything anybody else says. Trouble is they're still trying to think of an opinion of their own.
BNP wants everybody back where they came from. So if they get in the whole country'll be empty within 5 years.
BIG want rid o' Labour. What they'll do if they get there is anybody's guess - even theirs.
And if that's not enough - whoever you vote for you're wasting your time cos councillors have no influence whatsoever - Tarn is run by faceless, unelected and obscenely overpaid bureaucrats.
Stop at ooam lad.

RE: Shyty's Guide to Local Politics so your wasting your time and dont bother voting??? thats why we need voters!!! You will not find a party that can offer 100 % everything you agree with so the next best thing look at what they are about and work out what % of each offering is best for you and go down that route. As for the comment about BNP sending everyone back in the next 5 yrs ..IMO thats a good thing!
Had a Labour canvasser knocking at the door last night - Asking who I'm going to vote for. After pointing out the state of the road she'd just walked up - Full of pot holes, some filled in with old tarmarc The state of Churchfield Lane that runs from Darton to Kexborough. You need a 4x4 to drive up and the lack of road markings is probably because the centre of the road it a couple of feet to the right as the edge of the road has erroded. The complete waste of money they'd spent on the new junction opposite the Rose and Crown. At the time, they state the reason they couldn't put a mini roundabout there is due to 'optical cables under the road' FFS - Space age technology - That'll keep the dumb yocals quiet..... Lack of any traffic management with cars, lorries etc.. tearing through the village at 40+ mph making it impossible at times to pull out of Church St. State of local high school and the 'pigs in trough' contract to Carrilion - Knocking down perfectly good 100 year old buildings to be replaced with plywood McDonald's prefab schools on Carrillion 25 year maintenance contracts (Genius who thought that one up). State of local recreational facilities, with kids play area full of dog ****, glass and graffiti. Ooooh! They've put up a £70K skate park - In the same place that was UNDER 3 FOOT OF WATER last year - Which will be under water again as they've done bugger all since the last flooding. Her only excuse was 'It was the Tories that did it back in 1997' - FFS Labour's been in power in Barnsley since I was born and it's never changed. How long is it before they take responsibility for their own failings and not claim 'It's what we inherited from the Tories' excuse. OOohh I didn't half let her have it... (blagger) In the end, she backed away saying that we'd have to agree to disagree.... (kissmyass)
Dont Vote Labour under inflation payrises for public sector workers. housing market just about collapsed. petrol at record prices. council tax up 8%. Iraq.
Although I agree with you there - The local elections should be about what your local council is doing for you.
These are some previous local election results - Ward by Ward 2006 Results - http://www.barnsley.gov.uk/bguk/Com...ction_Results/2006 Local Election Results.htm 2007 results - http://www.barnsley.gov.uk/bguk/Cou...s/Elections/Local Elections 2007 - Candidates I'll be tactical voting this time, anyone but Labour.
