just got a letter stating I have a postal vote for the Election of the Police and Crime Commisioner for the South Yorkshire police area.

Is this the first time we have had the opportunity to vote on this?

Nope. That last lovely person who wouldn't resign, we voted him in. Although we didn't really, the turnout was unbelievably low. Actually, it was believably low, we have no idea what the job entails, who the candidates are or if they'll be any good at the job. It' as random as asking me to pick a winner at a horse show. And I've never even seen a horse. I vote that we stop having these stupid votes.

The whole election process for this is a massive waste of money, a few hundred polling stations manned for a ridiculously low turnout.

Quite possibly. Although actually it would have gone in the recycling bag.

How long before manning the polling station is a zero hours contract...

We had opportunity to vote for it about a year or so ago, the guy just resigned over the Rotherham child abuse scandal, at first I wondered why as he'd not been in the job long but he was in charge of child services at Rotherham council when it was going off. What a bunch we have now, Conservative, UKIP, EDL - all of which I would never consider voting for, which leaves me with the Labour guy.

The role of PCC shouldnt be held by somebody who is politically motivated. As such i refuse to vote.

The turnout in Manchester was something like eleven per cent last time out.

Can't remember the figure for South Yorkshire, but it'll have been low enough for the victor to be stretching the truth when he claims to have had a mandate from the electorate.

Similarly, I disagree with the notion of it being a political appointment...however I will vote because I don't want the post to be UKIP or EDL.
