That was my thought too !

The national average wage is £525 ish. There must be some very high earners in Barnsley area to get the average so high.
I have never earned any where close to that !!

Steve Houghton and Dale Jennings have skewed that poll.

Could you add a Loads of Money option for Tyrone, Gloria Tit and the rest of the pseudo Tories of this forum?

Forgive me if I sound out of touch but that works out at £25k a year, surely thats not a remarkable salary? If I were to have a guess I would have put the average somewhere around that figure. There will be people who earn much less than that who are offset by plenty of people who earn between 30k and 40k and the odd person earning more than that.

I am not a hooray henry surrounded by posh friends but I have plenty of people in my circle of friends and acquaintences who earn around or more than 25k. These include prison officers, teachers, an electrical tutor, builders etc. Normal people doing normal jobs.

I live in South Elmsall just over the border in west yorks. Barnsley is 9 miles away. Surely not gonna make a massive difference to the average you quoted. It is not exactly Kensington.

    £26K per annum?

Back on 1986 I first worked on government youth trident scheme on £80 a week. That was in Doncaster. After that I moved to a job in Brampton (Rotherham) on £100 pw.
Left there in 1989 to work in Leeds (regular nights), starting £180pw.
Still with the same company after 25 years, although now on days and have never been paid overtime. On £35+ which TBH I consider average. It pays the bills, living month to month.
I know people that worked down the pits back in the mid 80's and with OT £30K+ was the norm. That was 30 years ago!
So never worked in Barnsley, always had to travel to find work, but earn more than £471 pw.

Not nearly enough to be a Tory...you're just a few failed pay cheques from selling the Big Issue...

not quite sure what this thread is getting at tbh. 25k isn't a high salary. many of the people i know, earn £40-60k plus, are barnsley born & bred and have comfortable, but still pretty modest lifestyles.

But the going rate at ASOS is £48 a day, more people work in warehousing than are brickies .

I am just seeing whether the BBS is average , I dont want any details, if you dont to poll, dont, but I must be way off kilter if as it seems, most on here think that £25 k is average for a Barnsley wage !
I did not ask for any lifestyle posts.
