You’d need a serious beer scooter to get from The Wagon to Bretton Hall.

Grew up in Wakey. Did the run more than once & worked in a few of the pubs now & then. Was always a cracking night out, but I've not been back for many years so it could all have gone downhill....

Bretton itself is a dry village with no pub and iirc there had to be a special licence for the Bretton Hall student union to sell alcohol...

It appears they are all travelling into Leeds, which is a great night out now.
Pretty dead in comparison to 30 yrs ago .
I suppose same could be said of Barnsley kicking night out in the late 90s.

My suggestion from Kirkgate would be:-
    1) Fernandes Brewery Tap - near Kirkgate train station. - Real Ale pub
    2) Then you've to walk 10 mins to The Hop - Real Ale - optionally stopping at the Polka Hop on the way.
    3) walk across the car park to Harry's Bar - real ale
    4) next door is the Print works - real ale.
    5) go back across the car park and head for the centre - stopping at Lobby 1867 - trendy/hypster bar and/or across the road from there to The Black Horse for the lively bottomless brunch crew - of the opposite sex.
    6) walk into town - Hideout bar & Cocktail Lounge on the left. Cheap Wetherspoons vibe in Hogarths opposite.
    7) carry on up to Brick & Liquor and/or The Counting House which used to be the big Bank at the top of westgate. Both decent.
    8) carry on left of The Counting House to the Supper Club - another cocktail/upmarket style bar.
    9) options - go up the alley next the Supper Club to Elliots,
    10) across the road is The Black Rock, famous old boozer, still going, good beer, nice traditional pub.
    11) carry on along the main road and into Qubana - a restaurant but with a good bar inside and really nice rooftop bar.
    10) Don't go in the Blind Pig, which is just opposite Quban I mean you can, but its rough AF. Same for The Strafford Arm just a bit further on, avoid. And don't even get me started on The Griffin further along towards the Bus station - avoid, avoid, avoid
    11) Instead, if you want to complete the circuit go in the Raven heading down the hill past the Bullring.
    12) At the bottom of the hill is The Six Chimneys (it is a wetherspoons) , recently refurbed and extended, its now massive, and I mean massive.
    13) head back towards Kirkgate stopping off at the Harwood Arms - trad old fashioned boozer, the only building that's going to survive on that row as its being knocked down. Then back to the train station(or back into Fernandes if you're still standing) , boom!

Wakefield's not like it used to be (where is?), but you can definitely make a good day/night out with a variety of different vibes, I've not mentioned a few others but that should be good start!

If you’re wanting a pub with jukebox ( with wide variety of music most of which is provided by regulars ) try Inns of Court on King Street just off Silver st near top of Westgate

Agree with all of that except I'd personally put the Black Rock and The Raven (especially the Raven) in the same company as the Strafford and the Blind Pig although admittedly not to the same levels. It's where typically all of the ne'er-do-wells hang out.

The Golden Pineapple is a cool (albeit small) little bar just opposite Qubana which is worth a visit.
