Well that's one way to stop underage drinking - just reduce the drinking age! Infact make the drinking age 3 and you've wiped out the problem entirely!

Perhaps we could stop the problem of people speeding by increasing the speed limits.

:pff guess you can see the point, they are going to drink anyway, would be safer in a public place rather than in secret in parks or whatever. Although flooding pubs with even younger people would be terrible in reality.

As for the speeding that would work! no speed limits at all!! and a free super car for everyone!

    But...

Wouldn't this encourage 13/14 year olds to start pretending their 16... some will get away with it, whilst they wouldn't if it was 18. I say increase it to 21.

    RE: But...

yeh basically there is no solution, they will still drink. but i agree with you that just encourages even younger. id like more over 21 pubs at the very least!

Do they not do 'Challenge 21' in Yorkshire? If people look under 21 they're asked to prove they're 18.

And they've just put the fines up for bar staff serving underage customers to £3k!

    RE: But...

we are supposed to I think, I have seen signs in many supermarkets and shops, however, I don't think they are, I witnessed on more than one occasion that someone wasn't asked for ID, and they didn't appear to be 21. In fact, they were very fortunate not to be classes as under 18 too.

Saw some lads the other day get ID'ed and the bar staff were telling me about the fines. It's not worth risking it, even if you do spend all night checking passports and driving licences.

    i was actually meaning

pubs where you have to be 21 anyway, would elminate some of the idiots you have to put up with. i know what you mean though ive seen people walk straight into places and get served and they barely look 18

it'll lead to more underage sex

you go in a pub/bar/cluv and see a nice lass you automatically assume that she's over 18 or else she wouldnt be in there, if they're allowing them in at 16 then as you said some will be in at 12 and 13 because they look older. TFP shags one of them and ends up in court on 3 charges of being tommy.

    yes and no

yes in theory. but in practice how do you carry one with you at all times if you're wearing shorts in the summer? And if you arent going to have it with you all the time then it defeats the object of having it because osama's best mate will just say he's left it at home.</p>

I just dont understand how you can be expected to carry one at all times whilst wearing shorts and a tshirt with no pockets.

    no

i see it as an infringment(sp) on my rights. Call me stupid old fashioned or whatever but i dont think i want to live in a country where you have to prove who you are. Im not agaisnt a generalised id card that could cover you driving licence passport ect.

But i think it would be wrong to have to carry it at all times. Do they want that anyway? or is it tabloid propaganda again, that you would have to carry it.
