Last Saturday after Burton draw. Three young lads were talking amongst themselves and said they only buy a season ticket because their mates do and it's same crap every week. First lad then said he wasn't renewing, just picking his games next season. I've four proper mates who I go to football with (one not so well right now) and last time I said, "I'll just pick my games". Was 6 years ago. Not so easy to sift through bull 5 hite and start going again.
There’s no enjoyment in going to oakwell pal, it’s become a job to drag yourself down. My mates have all stopped going, my young lad doesn’t want to go, so that leaves me all by myself. Infact I haven’t been since October. Infact it’s that dire we’ve offered our tickets to everyone and anyone for free and no one wants them. Some of the biggest Barnsley fans I know are now just finding other things to do on a weekend. Did you see how empty the ground was on Saturday? It’s genuinely scary how many fans have been pushed away.
I said the same thing when I got refunded last season after Duff left for Swansea, before the season’s start. Iv been to 3 games since. None this season. No desire to.
I endured Saturday on my own, as my two mates had other commitments. It was cold and the football was none too scintillating and for the first time this season I had serious doubts as to why I bothered. This underwhelming transfer window will probably make that decision easier.
One of my mates went down into concourse after 35 mins and I went down to have a Stowford with him. He phoned their lass to pick him up so he could have a chill afternoon with a few beers and takeaway. I stayed and all trains were cancelled and it took an hour to Wakey and further half hour back to Pontefract. Looking forward to taking George bowling this Saturday at 1 pm. Won't be online or see score until he's in bed asleep. No plans on taking him to Oakwell anytime soon.
r Lass drove to Barnsley after the game and we went to Meadowhell. Thought late Saturday would have seen things ease off but it was rammed. So if I kick football in to touch, Meadowhell won't be an alternative!
Despite having a season ticket I opted to watch the Burton match at home for no other reason that I just couldn't be bothered. That's the 3rd time this season I've done it. That's 3 more times than I've ever done in the 45 years of watching them.Yes I've missed games before but not because I've chosen to. I always thought I would never get bored of watching the reds but not only have I missed the games through my own choice I didn't miss it either.
Granted, I live 70 mile away from Oakwell but I chose to watch the Plymouth - West Brom game in the local. Two weeks ago, I intended to go to both Stevenage and Burton. For the Stevenage game, I had an afternoon at home watching all the footie. I sacked off the Crawley game for a meal out. Just can’t be arsed anymore.
