Evening people. This is slightly off topic but me and my cousin have decided to follow in WSBs footsteps and we are doing a sponsored walk to brammall lane on the 23rd when we play them. On Saturday morning at 3.37am we lost our grandad to MDS, a former of blood cancer, he was on the chemotherapy ward at Barnsley Hospital and we would like to raise money for them. The staff on that ward were brilliant to our grandad and did everything they could to keep him with us, and for us personally they couldn't have done any more... they gave us quilts, beds, food and drink on his final day.

The NHS is a brilliant thing, their staff are unbelievable and we just wanted to give something back. By raising money they can use the money to buy radios, tvs, water dispensers and much more to help give chemotherapy patients and their families a more enjoyable time whilst they are on that ward.

We know a walk to Sheffield United isn't much compared to the walks WSB did, but we just want to make our grandad proud and by us raising money it's a gift from him to the staff who tried so hard to help his fight against cancer.

We will shortly be setting on a just giving website to try and gain sponsors, if anyone could give us a sponsor we would be delighted.

    Again, thanks for your time.

    You reds!

First of all, sincere condolences for the loss of your Grandad. Secondly, what a wonderful idea to raise money in his memory and for the unit. I have no doubt he'd be extremely proud of you.
As others have said, please ensure you put up a link to the Just Giving page when you've got it sorted.

Sorry to hear about your grandad, but absolutely agree with you about the fantastic staff at Barnsley. I was in ward 23 and can see why they are rated one of the top 3 stroke units in the UK.

I won't be able to make such a big walk, but have a pile of prints of my Old Oakwell painting, which I would be happy to donate to help raise funds for your project. I plan to to something with them too to brighten up the walls of the Stroke rehab unit at Kendray, where I also spent 10 days recovery.

Good luck with it mate. C

I'll sponsor you as soon as you've set your page up ,might be a good idea to ask for a sticky once done although usually one of the administraters normally do when they see something like this.

    Good luck mate.
