This was the first time I've seen the Reds play since the FA Cup in MK. Having spend many a year traveling back up to Barnsley to watch the Reds I finally gave into work commitments which have curtailed my travelling hence seeing the Reds play here in MK is a bonus for me. I have read most things about this current team and I thought the general consensus was that our defence was the problem. Well for me the main problem seems to be the midfield and badly needed is a ball winning player who can drive the team forward and protect the defence. I though our midfield was powder puff at best against probably one of the better sides in the league. On the plus side I though our two fullbacks look promising, Turnbull did well and Big Jean is improving.
Agreed and this is what makes me question Danny Wilson. He has rightly so addressed the problem by signing Josh Scowen (ball winning midfielder) and yet leaves him on the bench again. All the fans can see it so why cant he?
Josh Scowen could do with a bit more height and muscle for that role, hopefully he will be the answer
Between Scowen, Pearson and Digby you'd hope we'd have enough cover in the ball-winning centre midfield role. But when two are on the bench, well, there you go.
That's a question only one man can answer. All I can say is that he watches them train every day so he must have his reasons. He needs to sort midfield out though, and quickly.
The area we have most cover for is our worst performing. Right now I can see where we create chances and keep clean sheets. After the first phase and in the middle of the second rebuild stages, I still feel we are 4 players short of a competetive squad. I guess need to move some on though to bring more in.
