I was walking my dog around the old railway lines behind athersley north that lead toneastfield arms this morning when my springer was attacked by what can only be described as a pit bullxstaffie type dog - I have never been as scared in my life it's jaws locked around her throat and I have never heard a dog scream before but the noises she made will live with me forever - the dogs owner was punching it in face and it wouldn't let go - eventually it released and Rosie ran like I've never seen her before back to car - luckily she's ok lots of big puncture wounds to her face and ear she is very sorry for herself - just be aware if you're in the area it's a brown gangly thing and it's owner said it was called 'max'

No the wife doesn't want to as in her words it's the owners fault not the dogs ( which I agree with ) hopefully he'll never let it off lead again - I also had my 3 month old pup with me - so glad I scooped him up straight away

Glad to hear your dog's okay & she has every right to feel sorry for herself.
The perfect example of someone having a dog, but lacking the ability to control or command it, trying to use it as a status symbol.

    Sorry but action needs taking.

What if next time its not someone else's dog but a child.

She's a lovely dog too. Really placid. Very upsetting.

I bet the owner of the attacking dog scarpered off, didn't apologise, leave his name & address or offer to pay for any vet's bills.

Similar thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago - whilst I was walking my dog (on lead) on 50 yards or so from home when he was attacked by a female staffy. No amount of puching/kicking this violent creature from me would get it to let go. Its owner came running up to his dog, managed to free the two and scarpered off. Thankfully my dog was ok - no real apology from the owner who continued to let the dog walk without lead.

He stayed luckily - did apologise but was very reactant to give me his address - finally got it from him but drive past and the house he says doesn't really suit him if you know what I mean so I suspect it's a false address - you could tell he had it as a status symbol dog - 20 ish yrs old skinhead with long metal chain for lead

Or even better find a appropriate owner one who keeps it on a lead in public places. And the bloke needs prosocuting for failing to control a dog in public place.

    A staffie/pitbull cross.

Is that not an illegal breeding?

Not too sure with it being a cross but staffs are as good as any other dog with kids and around people generally. Just not round other dogs its just responsible ownership if you knew your dog wasnt good around other dogs you wouldnt let it off the lead in public.

It wants reporting. The police won't have the dog put down unless it's an illegal breed, but they will make him keep it on a lead.

Family friend had their dog killed by an Alsatian a few months back. He was walking with it on a lead (one of two), when an Alsatian that was off it's lead attacked it. The Alsatian owner carried on walking while this dog was attacking the small dog. Only when he got to other side of the field did he whistle for the Alsatian to come. By which time he'd already killed one of the dogs. This was reported to the police, but they couldn't do anything as there 'wasn't enough evidence'. The vets report and a dead dog wasn't enough as the Alsatian owner claimed he never saw anything and that his dog wasn't involved.

He wasn't prosecuted, but he was warned that the dog must be kept on a lead at all times.

In fact, there's a new law just been brought in (a few weeks after this attack), where the owner can now be prosecuted for not controlling their dog.

^^^^ this ^^^^. Once happened similar to me 2 Red setters (far from dangerous dogs tackle) they were nutters. I had to carry mine head height alway home, I was bitten to death, so was mi dog. Later owner reassured me it'd never happened before! Found out months later they'd destroyed em both cos they'd had a go at grand kids
