I knew a bloke when I worked at Lyons Bakery who was in it. Bob Naylor, he had one of the good parts bullying Casper etc. Think they were all from one of schools up Carlton - St.Michaels or St.summat-or-other.

they shot most of it on our street when I was 6 or 7.

In those days you could go out and play on the street when you were that age and I can remember sitting on the corsey edge watching them filming it.

Whenever I watch it now, it brings back happy memories of the area I used to roam around whilst growing up.

This is a dodgy review if ever I saw one!

Kes follows a fourteen year old boy's day to day life in a colourless working class town in the north somewhere, I don't know where,Lancashire maybe a few decades ago in the 50's I think. This boy doesn't really fit in at school and doesn't have any friends.
I found the dialogue hard to follow at some points, because of the strong accent. The cast all deliver a strong performance and is a a very realistic depiction of day to day life in this particular town. Anyway there is not a lot I can say is wrong with this film, It is solid and holds your attention to the end, its quite atmospheric, but isn't a masterpeice. I'd probably give it 3 and 3/4 stars.

all Caspers house, street and countryside scenes were filmed on and around parkside road, hoyland common. The writer Barry Hines lived just round the corner so I presume thats why they filmed it their. I think the school stuff was at St Helens in tarn, but I stand to be corrected on that one.

I knew a few of them.

Went to the same junior school. David Bradley was our paper lad and we knocked about a bit together for what seemed like a few years but was probably closer to a few weeks. When I went to their house his sister kept trying to kiss me.

Still see Jimmy Rhyder, the brick shithouse blond lad in the football match, and the little lad who had only brought a message but ended up getting the cane. He's about six foot now but has exactly the same face and ears. I keep telling him to turn his pockets out, he stopped finding it funny about five years ago.

    I still see........

Brian Glover around town. He's got a bald head now and his best mate follows him all over with in a black cape and some kind of farming implement in is hand.

He's a nice bloke as well, always seems like he's talking to himself, it could be his age I suppose.

Apparently the Kestrel didn't die and Craig David bought it for next to nowt before going on tour.

Ivy (caspers mum) now lives in Maltby and is always pissed and lives off McDonalds. I have it on inside knowledge that she gets a taxi driver to pick it up after ordering it from the McDonalds next to Bramley roundabout on the M18.

    You heard it here first.

    I like this part

"a very realistic depiction of day to day life in this particular town" yet he said he didn't know where it was, so therefore how can he say it is realistic?!

    Sure was...

... in the football match. A fleeting presence in an old Man City shirt. Say, 0.25 seconds of fame. Looking forward to the other 14.75 minutes when they turn up.

There were quite a few Broadway lads involved...

Rob Naylor from my year got a talking (and feighting) part. He's the one who has a bundle with Casper on the school coke pile.
The world premier for the film was in Doncaster.
