4,700 chelsea fans?
Meaning that there were roughly 17,800 home fans. Not bad when the home areas of the ground can only hold around 17,000.

The away end was 1,300 below capacity, yet the attendance was only 599 below capacity. It's as if they announced how many Chelsea fans were actually there, but counted all 5,782 as sold for overall attendance purposes, maybe as Chelsea actually paid for them all. The 599 shortfall would then be accounted for by the 218 seats left intentionally empty in the away end and the seats kept back for complimentaries (those behind the away dugout for instance that didn't fill up until kick off) and unusable ones because of the camera gantries.
That could explain it, it was very odd though and I couldn't see over a thousand empty seats in the chelsea end either.
If that's what it is, only BFC could do their maths that way. To count fans one way (ie those actually there) on the one hand (away fans wise), yet count them a different way (seats paid for) on the other - all in the same calculation!
