In a pub in Selby and there were a group of lads sat watching the match and when stones came on was the biggest cheer of the night. Apparently one of the lads at the table was released the same day as Stones signed his scholarship when they were 17 in the youth ranks together. He wasn't bitter though just said look at him and look at me sat here so I also mentioned that the academy complex was named after Stonesy now and he got a bit of stick for the rest of the night poor lad and the landlord offer to name the pub bogs after said lad. Funny what somebody giving you a chance can lead to. Obviously you've got to apply yourself but one persons opinion could have meant I was stood talking to john stones in the pub last night.
Similar to that story that's come out about Cristiano Ronaldo and his mate from their academy days, no idea how much truth is in it though? I heard his goal celebration in the Champions League Final was planned/staged for his movie!
wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy we obviously fecked up on sell on clauses etc for him too
Apparently him and some lad he was in academy with were head to head to win a contract at Sporting Lisbon and the other lad set up CR with an open goal to help him seal the contract and missed out on becoming a professional footballer himself. It's been doing the rounds since the CL Final.
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy We get 20% of all profits made from the guy selling aftershave in the toilets now they're named after him.
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy Aftershave in Selby??? They think soap is a work of the devil round here so aftershave is a rarity.
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy Aftershave is for the ladies in Selby innit?
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy They normal just rub old fruit on themselves!
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy I could have had all the talent in the world at 17 (definitely didn't like) but don't think I'd have been strong enough to put football first with all the other distractions you get at that age so people like John Stones deserve the success they are having. I know a few lads who went through the youth teams at Barnsley and possibly could have made the grade but we'll never know as they were going out on the p*ss Wednesday night and turning up for training the next day still half baked and were eventually let go. Although saying that I knew Neil Austin in passing and he was out pretty regularly and did quite well.
Re: wow I did not relise we had Christiano Ronaldo in our academy Neil Austin - think he still lives locally - worked hard as a youngster.
