Pathetic really from professional footballers. Particularly as the majority were missed rather than saved. After the first two rounds of penalties we'd played 210 minutes (3 and a half hours) of football this season including 2 penalties without scoring a goal and barely testing the opposition keeper. On the plus side, I thought Jim O'Brien played fantastic tonight, but even he missed his penalty. And Luke Steele made some fantastic penalty saves, but he missed his penalty too. Everyone else in our team? Meh.
Dags, Jasonjason, Luke and Jimbo all missed and we won 5-4. So that's a total of 18 pens, half of which were missed in some description. I just had a recap on my 45 minute bus ride back to the Mam's. Two of ours hit the woodwork if that's any consolation. The shoot out was great fun for the dozens of kids in the ponty, after the single most uninspiring game of football I think I've ever seen. I doubt too many of them will be begging to go next week. Bit of a PR disaster from the lads in truth. Luke could have at least gave one of them his gloves after that comedy of a match. Rare visit to the Ponty for me tonight. I thought I'd position myself closer to the bus station, needn't have bothered - still had to wait 35 minutes. Still can't see what's happening at the other end of the pitch, but at least my arse was spared the West stand wooden seats for nigh on 3 hours.
Since when does your goalkeeper, who is renowned in this league as a fine shop stopper, but a somewhat questionable kicker of the ball, take a penalty before your primary striker? Loopy
Steele: I didn't feel like it was me when I missed. I was confident and will definitely take another.
