About a certain winger they have : "he can go past the first man, he can go past the second man, but can he cross a ball? No"

Where have I heard that before...

Scores more than Devaney though. Wonder if they'd be willing to swap?

Did Devaney have a proper shocker on Setdi then? The majority on here have been singing his praises of late..and quite rightly. Seems the tide has turned a bit.

I do think wingers get bad press at Oakwell. Bullock, Betsy, Shuker, Devaney all get stick for a similar problem...final ball. The truth is that if you took the natural talent, pace and skill that all these players possess (perhaps not Shukes with the pace!) and added consistant quality crossing, you would have a Premier League ever present.

Devaney, like the rest can be frustrating but he's still the only player actually able to take a player on. Without that, our attacking options would be limited to say the least.

Hmmm...I'd not seen owt about asking for more cash. Does change things slightly!!

He works his socks off though, you've got to give him that. Even when it's not his day he'll continue to make the runs...often to the frustration of the fans.

Pressure - pushing down on me ...

... whenever we are getting absolutely battered we have only 2 "out balls" that mean we can keep the footy - one is Howard, who won't panic ... while the other is Devaney, who will get it & run down that flank until his blood turns to water.

He wasn't brilliant on Setdi ... but he was 462 trillion times better than Grant McCann, but the Gord / Davey Appreciation Society don't like to mention that.

    My ratings for Setdi:

    Colgan : 4 ... had a poor game
    McCann : 0 ... completely pointless
All the others : 6 ... very average

definitely - i like the guy.

you're right about the wingers thing though - if betsy / bully had the final ball then they would have played in the prem. similar to devaney - but yeah think he turned down most recent contract offer as he thought he was worth more. fair play to the lad but i can't imagine a championship team coming in for him pre season.

    The funny thing is...

The final ball ought to be the easy thing. Players at pub level can cross a ball, yet these talented dribblers can't!

    RE: The funny thing is...

Well, I think you are right about dead balls. However, I've not seen many pub players who can dribble round three players and then plant it on the centre forwards head.

Add to that the fact that at pub level you've not generally got quality centre backs and keepers who can deal with crosses.

Good wingers are very hard to come by and I genuinly think we've got a decent one in Devaney.

    RE: The funny thing is...

They don't tend to dribble round anyone, just cross balls without beating anyone - something our lot should try sometimes rather than trying to beat someone four times! (doh)

As you rightly point out, if they could beat three men and cross a ball they wouldn't be in a pub league!

Personally I think Devaney is one of our more talented players. And he will run himself in to the ground for the team. His crossing may not be the best and most consistent but lets face it the general passing throughout the team isnt of the highest standard, so its a bit harsh to single him out.
