Getting promoted is a great feeling but it's going to be a massive rebuild in the summer, I fear for us if we don't get it spot on. I don't wish to sound unambitious but I don't mind league one we are very competitive I hate losing every week in the championship it's no fun.
For me if we'd won at Wembley, Duff still goes, Mads still goes, kitching bid still comes in and probably goes for money, the owners wouldn't have gambled but seen it as a chance to level out financially can't blame them and we'd have got mullered. Massive summer ahead for us either way let's hope the new structure has already been hard at it identifying summers recruitment.
Yeah, this. Worries me a lot. Looking at the Championship table doesn't make the feeling any better. Both Plymouth and Wednesday spent most of last season being a cut above the rest of the league. Yes, Wednesday had a massive wobble but Plymouth saw it through to the end. And yet both are bottom 4 with 6 games to play. By comparison, we would be stumbling out of the league. If we go up, even if we invest what we can as sensibly as we can, I can't see anything other than a Rotherham season. The gap between L1 and the championship is becoming a chasm. If that's being too negative, I apologise.
Maybe ,but can you honestly say your looking forward to next season in the championship if we manage to go up. I would love us to be competitive in the championship but other than that freak lock down season it's one struggle after another and don't enjoy it. It's ok to disagree I get it I wish it was different but without significant investment and I wouldn't want a risk all strategy it's where we are unfortunately.
I thought the Bolton home game was like a Championship game. Best game I've seen this season involving us ,but by the end we were desperately clinging on. For much of the rest of the season we've looked miles off Championship level. We can do it for 10 or 15 minute spurts, but I think most Championship sides would blow us away. It was pretty much the same last season as Ipswich proved in the game at Oakwell.
We've done it before, many times, and we can do it again. Let's just get out of this league and then worry about next season.
But I would say most of them have core of player's who can cope/thrive at championship level ,we will go in with a rebuild on our hands. Maybe some will stay if we go up but to my mind most are already half way out the door already hope I'm wrong but that's how I see it.
Yes, but that was then and this is now. When we were up there and competitive it was a pretty level playing field; now it's corrupted by increasing amounts of Greed League failure payments. The amounts needed now just to be competitive are probably beyond our means. That's not being negative, it's being realistic.
We will need to rebuild an entire team if we go up or we will be like Rotherham. Even our out of contract players who won't be signing new contracts are not Championship quality.
I totally get your point but none of us know how this season will end never mind next season. Maybe Collins tactics would be better suited to the championship or maybe we get a Trippier, Barnes or Drinkwater style young un on loan or Jalo and Connell take the league by storm. Strange things happen in football.
Wanted that Leeds player to miss after taking the ball off the actual player who was going to take it.
I would love all that to come true I really would but what's the chances. I just find for me to be more realistic and accepting what we are and if your dreams come true the that's a massive bonus.
I don’t see the gap that others do. It took a great feat of absolute incompetence from the Owners to get us related from the Championship when we came down. I say that because the League was gash that year - as it was in previous years. There’s always 2/3 stand out teams but the rest are pretty much of a muchnesses. I would hope to be proved wrong but I wouldn’t worry about how we would fare next Season in the Championship simply because we’ve managed to beat Burton! I’m still hoping for 5th place and a semi final against Peterborough. Everything else above that is a bonus.
I can't disagree with you mate but football is so unpredictable and we should always aim for promotion without fearing what will follow, look at the last second goal at Brentford that kept us up and then nearly promoted to the premier league followed by one of our worst seasons ever all with largely the same group of players.
Assuming it's the TV games then that's 6 of the top 10 teams, including 4 of the top 6 though. Wouldn't have any of those as teams I would contemplate finishing above tbh. Get the wider point but I reckon its like L1 with mini divisions of 8 and we could compete in the bottom 8 scrap
