Well if he loses majority of our games then yes I'm guessing you'll be right....but let's try be positive,
Makes no difference - managers are judged on results, if we're approaching January and things aren't looking good then they'll probably change it. There's no way we can be in a worse position than Xmas 2012 though.
I'm a great supporter of Flicker. But my gut feeling is that Watkins and Mansford with their connexions will be looking to bring in someone more like themselves. Hope I'm wrong.
Odd thing to say considering it is very likely down to Flitcroft's achievements that Maurice and Ben joined BFC. They would not have been arsed with a league one club, neither would we be able to finance their schemes. Un-nessecarily negative, we haven't even kicked off yet.
Was thinking the same. From the outside it looks like Flitcroft has united the squad, has a good working relationship with those above and there's no reason why we can't massively over-achieve with him in charge providing the players can deliver at least 95% of what they did in the second half of last season. Why bring someone else in who doesn't know the players? They probably wouldn't fancy half of them to start with and would need money to rebuild their kind of team. Obviously if things are going massively downhill then you look at changing it - that's just the reality of football management. Not sure what targets the board have set Flitcroft, I wouldn't imagine they are too unrealistic, for me just never being in danger of relegation would be nice for a change. Too many what if's at the moment, can't wait for the season to start and it doesn't get much tougher than the opening game.
aaaaaaaaaaargh! joining Supertyke and my friend Dyson in the wilderness - a fate worse than death! I'm positive re Flicker and will back him all the way. But the fact is, in Mansford and Watkins we have two very different characters to Flicker. I have a hunch they will want one of their own type as manager.
Weird when it was Flicker pushing for those changes. As they say stranger things have happened but i predict this thread will be proven incorrect.
I very much doubt that Ben and Maurice would have wanted to the job Don had to do. that is squeeze every little penny to get that balance sheet straight and the club solvent. I think we have to respect Don for that. A number of factors have fallen into place, by chance or design to get us quickly to where we are. Flitcroft's accomplishments uniting the squad and fans, then keeping us up. Add the money we got for John Stones and we were in a reasonable position. I believe Patrick has capitalised on that and decided this is a good time to up the ante and push the club forward. Bringing in Maurice and Ben and letting Don finally have his retirement. This would have been a risk at any other time and we had to go through the lean seasons to get to where we are. The court case seemingly behind him now, I think will also make a difference.
Whats the difference between them? I'd have thought a young and ambitious manger is what they bought into what would someone like themselves be like?
IMHO Flitcroft's future at Barnsley will depend entirely on the results his team achieve. The fact that neither Watkins nor Mansford appointed him or that 'he isn't their type of manager' will have no bearing at all. If the team does well, we'll keep him. If the results are poor, we'll eventually let him go. Although Flitcroft may do so well that he is poached by another club. We've got professional men at the club who will judge our manager on performance rather than the colour of his tie.
You're in a parallel universe mate...here in the real world everything is fine and dandy in the land of the reds
