Watched him a bit closer today and this guy will be the unsung hero at our club if we carry on like this. His positioning and awareness of overlapping runs and balls through the gap is terrific. Calm and collected, looking for the forward ball. Even switched to LB later on and just as composed. Ogbeta will get the plaudits but Watson will be solid.

I agree looked really good was abit worried when he came as heard some Charlton fans views but impressive today. I also thought Ogbeta was class too today apart from the Huddersfield assist.

Imho...quality and a full back, a real full back who can defend....and looks very comfy on the ball.

He definitely looks the part and still probably isn’t up to full fitness yet.

The full backs get forward much more in the current formation than the wing backs that were supposedly protected by 3 centre backs in recent past seasons.

Not seen too much of him going forward yet but defensively he’s been excellent so far. I think that’s the point too. With how we set up, we can have Ogbeta bombing on up the left and Watson being more cautious on the right.

Impressive start to his Barnsley career.

Think he's been absolutely brilliant today; a proper full back. Really hope he stays longer than just this season

It feels like that because they have more space to play in, so when they get the ball they’re more effective.

Same reason O’keefe seemed crap. If you attack through your wing backs instead of your best attacking players you just end up going side to side.

I strongly agree with everything you say. Watson was really excellent. He produced a virtually flawless performance.

Dear Watson has looked good so far. He plays older than he is, which is a good compliment to give any player. He doesn't take risks like some of his defensive partners like to.

We said exactly same at the game. Just what we needed at the back. Solid, disciplined and makes defending look easy. How was he a free agent? Brilliant signing.

Watson the unsung hero..?. You've made a thread about him with 20 likes.. not as unsung as you imagine.
As for Ogbeta on the other side "getting the plaudits" .. not with many more back passes like that he won't !. Conor must have thought the same, he hooked him straight after the goal.

I know its early days but I have a similar feeling to when we had Pinnock (ok different positions)...in that when opposition players go at him....you have a feeling that "none shall pass" and he will negate the threat. It happened a few time yesterday where they switched play, with long diagonals and he was one on one with their attacker.....I remember saying at the times "oh its ok Watson will deal with that"...and he did.
I really can't remember having that feeling for ....well, since Pinnock.
