signed from Stoke for what £150k. My memory tells me he scored the goals to keep us up, including a "cheeky" back heel against someone or other.

Was he any good (I think he was okay) or was he toss?

    Excellent player IMO

While playing under Machin anyway. As soon as Machin left, Biggins looked like he couldnt give a toss.

I remember getting his autograph as a yoof in the old stand.
He passed my programme to the bloke next to him to sign...I had no idea who he was. Turns out it was Imre Varadi.

The West Stand - the celebrities choice.

    RE: Good question

I think it was. Christ on a bike. Mad Mel was ace. Spent about £1.2m that summer we sold Tiler and Agnew and bought a right load of old toss, except Davis.

Remember Gridlet? The original Kell? Most expensive non-league player at the time. If we are taliking value for money with Hristov, surely this guy was worse (altough he cost us much less)

That's it. I though Celtic were involved somewhere.

Just shows how times have changed. You'd never see Celtic signing a journeyman English second division forrad now!!

    RE:Machin

What a tw@t, spent all that money on some seriously bad players. After his 1st season it just went downhill, he was a ****** who used to invite his boyfriend into the changing rooms after games.

Didn't go down too well with the players by all accounts.

He did sign Redfearn though so i suppose that cancels out all the ****

Scored second best goal I have seen at Oakwell! Wide on left at Ponty End.About 15yard from goal line and couple of yards from side line straight in to far top corner! Cant remember who it was against! No loop on it just straight and hard!

Aye, i remember now too. Seem to recall Lou Macari being Celtic manager at the time, and Biggins and Macari wer together at Stoke. I think it was a very good deal at the time because it was obvious after Mad Mel went, Bigigns didnt want to be at Oakwell any longer. Payton was an ace finisher.
