Seriously - it's not about where we are now, it's about what we could become. We have potential for our gates to grow substantially with an improvement in the performances. We have a town that get's behind the club. We have a good ground with excellent training facilities. We have a decent first team with some genuine talent. We have a chairman who is patient and has back his manager properly. We could realistically mount a challenge on the playoffs - given the right the amount of time and a manager who is prepared to build season to season - give it three or four seasons we could be a very well established championship outfit. We've got to look to Burnley and the like - it really isn't good enough to start telling ourselves that the annual relegation contest is our lot in life. We could attract a good manager who is looking to prove something - not too long ago Mick McCarthy would have been suited to us. You look around and there are managers out there that are keen to return to football and show what they can do - we need to go out there and get the right man. Davey is not the right man. If we stick with Davey I'll tell you now what will happen - eventually he will get us relegated and it will tarnish the reputation of this football club. We are the club that has historically spent longer in the second tier than any other club - but already you hear commentators talking it not being our natural habitat. The rationale is simple - we've had a spell in league 1 and we've been teetering on the brink of going back there ever since we came up. Eventually Davey will get us relegated and he'll walk away with his reputation intact saying 'I did a tremendous job to keep them up as long as I did' - and all the world to a man will believe him. We need to take the positive step and get rid of him while we still have something to offer the right manager.
As a starting point, we might want to have bigger aspirations than finishing mid table which Cryne, Davey and a good number of fans would be satisfied with. So would I, but it's like anything else in life, you have to aim for the very top in everything you do. If we did, then I think we would be more likely to finish mid-table and possibly beyond. A simple change in 'mind set' from the club would be a great start to BFC's renaissance.
That is the key point, and I agree wholeheartedly. If we wait even a short while and we are marooned at the bottom then it seriously undermines our attempts to get a decent replacement.
i agree with your point and what you on paper you suggest but I wonder what the image of barnsley is inside the game?
