OK, we won 2-0 against a team that has been near the top of the league for the start of the season. And it was plain to see that Barnsley has far more talent in the team than Gillingham..........and yet we still seem to make it look very hard work. Gillingham should have been dead and buried in the first 20 minutes of the match..........but they weren't - and they weren't because the Barnsley players are still playing as though they have only just met each other. Prime example was in the first minute when Harris found himself in acres of space just outside of their penalty area - but instead of attacking their goal and putting one of our strikers through on goal...........he turned and passed it backwards. This set the tone for the rest of the match. Time and time again........passing movement going forward nearly worked.........but it never quite clicked. I don't know what the problem is...........but it could be what has already been suggested by Red Rain, which is something I have said in recent weeks - Winnall cant play the centre forward roll. He is not big enough, or fast enough, to do that - plus he gets blinkers on when he receives the ball and doesn't hold the ball up long enough to put his team mates through on goal - which a good centre forward does. Winnall is more likely to shoot (even if 30+m away) than pass the ball. I think Watkins is a much much better prospect at centre forward. I wouldn't play Winnall unless he was playing at the side of Watkins or one of the other tall centre forwards at the club. Winnall is a good player - but he is not a typical big centre forward. Leaving Winnall out of the starting line up would be a bit of a conundrum........leave your best goal scorer out.........but as a result, the team scores more goals
Yet Winnall has a strike rate of 1 in every 2 games - strange one. He's a poacher who picks up the pieces - usually from Watkins
If we're not clicking and winning games 2 0 then I can't wait for the day when we do click. We should be in play offs at least!
Automatic promotion should be easy peasy. The league is dreadful and devoid of much talent. Be nice to win a league for a change so we can all finish off the trifecta after previously going up as runners up and through the play offs. Nice thought
I agree that this league right now isn't strong. However we don't have an automatic right to win all games and gain a play off position. Peterboro's new manager Westley stated he had inherited a team worth £4m this season with £1.5m of players on the bench. Maybe they think the same, as well as Sheff Utd, Wigan, Millwall, Coventry.........
Super Sam is great and how can you drop a player who will score 20 goals this season, but it is a fact that with the players we have and system being played you won't get the best out of the team with Sam up top on his own. Also Smith is soon going to start getting frustrated with being on the bench. I don't know the answer and neither does LJ but it will take an injury or a January sale to force LJ into changing the team around which may get the team to click as we all think it can. We do need to be better than we are when we play the blunts and the other stronger teams but as we are we can still make the play offs easy enough. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Yes its reight........it is good that we are winning, and yet not playing that well...........its just so frustrating to watch........because its plain to see that there is obvious talent in this side. Some of Barnsleys players could easily step up into the Championship. I think if Lee can get them to click.......if he can get them to believe more in their own ability.........then we have a team very capable of being in the top 6 and maybe the top 2 by the end of the season. But its an.......'IF'
Yes, but his body language tells me he would rather be playing in a different manner. 6 or 7 shots per game is simply not good enough and down to our system. Break the shackles and play with freedom and you will become a legend Lee. You have got it in you, so come on lets see it.
I don't understand what "shackles " you mean.We seem more effective playing this system than the traditional 4-4-2.Almost every attack yesturday saw us getting four or five men in and around the box.
Poppycock! By far the best home performance so far. Two superb goals and managed the game well once we got in front.
Agree with that. I thought we had a slow start but once we got going there was only going to be 1 winner.
Rubbish! The best home game was Everton which really had me buzzing for days. Seen nowt since to get me excited.
We're 8th in the league and not playing particularly well. You'd like to think it's only a matter of time before we do click and we go on a bit of a run. At this stage of the season, a winning streak of 4 games or unbeaten run of 10 with 6 or more victories would be good enough to take us into the top 2. I said at the start of the season that 16 points from our first 10 games would be a good haul. If we win at Donny we will have surpassed that. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
