average home gate this season is 10,694. only Colchester, Scnuthorpe and Blackpool with lower, and they have capacity restrictions.

Not good enough to sustain Championship football long term. FACT.

    Course it is

If we're the 4th worst then there's three below us and only three go down.

I'm not sure theres a great deal the people on here can do about it as most of us probably do go to the home games.

I am starting to worry about the strikers - though perhaps not their lack of ability, but the fact that they don't even seem to be getting any chances to miss. That suggests a problem with the midfield too.

Certainly not time to hit the panic button like a lot of people on here are, but poor results in these next two home games and we'll be in a bit of bother.

I think that under the circumstances moaning about the attendance

isn't going to increase it. The only way to do that is for the business in question to identify why it's potential customers are not buying the product and to do something about it.

fortunately long term appears to be from 1 week to the next. We were Premiership a month ago and today we're Div 1. How does that balance out?

    Different game now

more player movement, influence of agents, costs associated to larger squads, overheads, etc, cant run a Championship club nowadays like we did back then, as prudent as we're being, inevitable that poor crowds will undermine us. first chance a player gets to play in front of a crowd as opposed to a mostly empty stadium, they'll be off.

    RE: Course it is

Leeds, Swansea and Forest all have higher average attendances than us.

    Which only goes to prove

That it's not your attendance that counts.

    Open to suggestions

bear in mind signing 14 new players hasnt encouraged people back, neither has being the highest club in Yorkshire for the first time in donkeys.

Last season, for the Leicester game, they dropped the prices

And we sold out the home end. First time we've done that for a long time. You'd think they might try that again.

What are our matchday prices ?

In fact how much did I pay for my Season Ticket ? Lost the plot totally me.

Until we start letting under 18's in for a fiver and under 12's for a quid if accompanied by an adult and encouraging people to come with stoodent promotions, family days etc then it'll sit at the current level ( unless we get promoted and then every Johnny softcock SKY 405 ceefax p.390 tosspot will crawl out of the woodwork)

Sustaining Championship football on 10k attendances

just simply cant see it. the teams that have come up and stayed up have 2 or 3 thousand more every week than us. There's a perception, on here especially, that we should be competing (if not beating) with the likes of Burnley, QPR and Plymouth, but the cold hard facts show we're punching above our level. the target was to establish ourselves in the Championship but thats not going to happen if the fans dont support the club.

Lower ticket prices (as jay points out, it worked against leicester)

Deals where games can be bought in blocks (im pretty sure its not the same 10,000 every week. some people simply cant afford to go to too many matches, if we made it easier to buy matches together then at least some people would take the offer up)

Better (ok ANY) pre match and half time entertainment. While most people go purely for the football there are some that are not die hard barnsley fans and want to be entertained. Would you prefer take a young child that isn't really interested in barnsley if you knew that at least before the match and at half time he was going to be entertained? The whole experience needs to be entertaining, not just the 90 minutes that the ball is on the pitch.

Get out into local schools promoting the club. 15 years ago this was done by all local sides, i've no idea if barnsley do this now but i've never heard of it.

Promote the club on local radio, TV and newspapers. The business needs to get out there and find the customers not the other way round.

    Leicester at home was different

... it was an end of season cliff hanger against a team in the ***** like us. Lower ticket prices would, I agree, mean more fans, but what about us ST holders who've forked out our hard earned in advance ?

    Just had a look

Nice idea with juvenile prices but don't understand why 11 years old is the cut off point.

If someone fancies a match at Oakwell and wants to take his lad for example, it's a £35 afternoon out afore any petrols been bought. Nah, too much, too inflexible. Bring back that discounted ticket if bought in advance thing.

Is that the football league rule then?

I wasn't aware that prices between £11 and £20 were banned.

My lads season ticket cost £50

thats just over £2 a game. I cant get my breath. the simple fact is folk in Barnsley just cant be arsed. there's no passionate footballing community, just a few hundred cyber warriers with a boat load of angst. FACT.
