We are wearing them on Saturday though and raffling off the match day shirts from the whole squad and donating all money made to the British Legion.

Mmmmm thought that misen! Hopes there's a reason for it?!? But can't think of one. We knew we'd be laikin in black?!? No other reason apart from budget cuts.... if we can stock the shop with Xmas jumpers now, then it's not too much to ask, and a tad embarrassing

As I've got older I've thought about my granddad a lot more and I wish I'd asked him more questions than I did while he was still here. Particularly about his time in the second world war. I know he served in Africa, but other than that I know very little. The freedom that we all take for granted is down to brave people like my granddad. If someone uses their freedom to choose to not wear a poppy at all or, as we are apparently doing, mark the occasion on a different weekend, in front of our home supporters, then I don't think we should use our freedom to judge them. We're perfectly entitled to, we've got that freedom, but I don't think it's good form. While wearing a poppy is a mark of respect, not wearing one is not a mark of disrespect.

As an aside! My Great Great Grandad Cpl John Lovett died in WW1 action. He's a memorial (with others) in Bagworth, Leics.

Anyway.... turns out (coz mi Dad, Uncle n mate research family trees) that John was a 'boy'. Returned from action, my great great Grandma was preggers! He'd been away for over a year!!!! My oldest uncle can remember her with a scarred burnt face! Looks like (and family say so) that he burnt her with boiling water, oil etc. He'd found out it was local village copper that was the Dad. He got called back for duty, he returned. BUT on the day he did the copper was found dead in the village pond! Cpl John Lovett went back to battle, never came home!

Don't think Huddersfield wore them either and their game was televised!

It's not compulsory to wear a Poppy. The Poppy was only intended to do one thing, raise money for fine work the British Legion were doing with WWI vets.

It was never about remembrance. The whole thing has now been high jacked by the Royals and the Politicians.

If true we'd be doing it for York not Port Vale. Doing it a week late looks bad and can be added to the ever growing list of bad decisions.

Maybe it was decided upon before we won the last round, last home match folks were selling poppies.

Often wondered about that. I have a strong interest in WW1 and let's face it, that's where Remembrance stems from. Not calling Huddersfield cowards by any means, but there was a lot of conscientious objection from Huddersfield folk in WW1, so much so that the chose not to form a Pals battalion like other Northern towns. That's one of the reasons there are not as many War Memorials in Huddersfield than other towns and Cities. As I say, not calling them, and their political stance was another story of WW1.

Not saying it's anything to do with their decision not to wear poppies at the weekend either, but part of me did wonder.
